Shots fired in Abbeville after Super Bowl game
No one arrested

If you were standing outside in Abbeville at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, you might have thought it was New Year’s Eve all over again because of the noise from gun shots and fire-crackers.
Residents in Abbeville and throughout the parish were excited after the New Orleans Saints claimed the Super Bowl Title. Some residents celebrated by yelling and blowing their horns while driving in their vehicles after the game.
Others celebrated by igniting leftover fireworks from New Years Eve and Christmas.
Then there were those who took it a step further. They fired their guns into the sky, which is illegal.
Abbeville Police Chief Rick Coleman said the celebration lasted about 15 minutes. The police department received many calls from residents who heard the gun shots.
“It occurred in different sections around town but no one got hurt,” said Coleman. “It was sort of like the Fourth of July.”
The good news is that all of those bullets fired into the air did not come down and hit anyone.
While the City Police did not arrest anyone for shooting a firearm in the city, Coleman said they arrested one for a DWI after the game.
