Former St. Mary Magdalen associate honored with monument

St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church has had its share of associate pastors and, now, one is being considered for sainthood.
Fr. Verbis Lafleur was ordained a priest on April 2, 1938 after preparing for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary and at Notre Dame Major Seminary in New Orleans. He celebrated his first mass in his home parish of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas before moving to his only parish assignment for the diocese. Fr. Lafleur served the parish of St. Mary Magdalen from 1938 until he enlisted as an Army Chaplain in 1941.

Autism: learning the art of communication

Autism: the word on its own implies to the fact that someone is going to have a hard time in life. In reality, it means that more than one person is going to have a hard time in life.
Practically speaking, autism is the breakdown in communication between the main character and those with whom he is trying to communicate. There is so much more to the problem on both physical and mental levels that this article will be broken down into a series of stories.

Passion for medicine key for new Hospital Board member

Energy. Excitement. Passion. And a willingness to serve.
These are just some of the traits that Bob Romero brings to the table as the newest member of the Hospital Board of Directors. He and his wife, Nicole, live on 22 acres purchased by his grandfather in the northeastern corner of Vermilion Parish. They met at Father Teurlings High School in Lafayette, where he said Sister Mary Angelle often admonished he and Nicole for spending too much time together. Not to be deterred, the two dated the four years through high school and have been married - to each other - for the past 43 years.

Latiolais and LeBouef plan wedding at Rip Van Winkle Gardens

Rip Van Winkle Gardens will be the setting for the wedding between Brandy Kaye Toby Latiolais and Brian Scott LeBouef.
Brandy is the daughter of A. G. and Elsie Toby of Arnaudville. She is a graduate of Cecilia Senior High School and is enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Currently, Brandy is employed by Service Machine and Supply.
Brian is the son of George and Gloria LeBouef of Abbeville and graduated from South Cameron High School. He is self-employed.
Their wedding will be August 31, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the gardens in New Iberia.

Jordan and Hebert plan September wedding

Krystal Renee Jordan and Ryan David Hebert have set September 5th as their date to exchange vows of matrimony.
Krystal is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Jordan of Erath. She graduated from Erath High School and attended Louisiana Technical College. Currently, she is employed by Vermilion Parish Clerk of Courts office.
Ryan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hebert of Andrew. He is a graduate of North Vermilion High School and attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is employed by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s office.

Children surprise mom with 70th Birthday party

A surprise Black and Gold birthday ball was held for Audrey Broussard of Erath on August 16. The party was in honor of her 70th birthday and hosted by her daughters and sons at the American Legion Hall in Abbeville. Attending were 70 family, friends, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The tme for the evening setting was a Royal Gala with an extra large gold crown as the centerpiece.
