Peter Trahan

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Crowley to celebrate the life of Peter Lawrence Trahan, 49, who died at noon on August 25. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Fr. Michael Collins will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Peter was born in Crowley on August 1, 1959.
He was educated at St. Michael Elementary School and Notre Dame High School, where he was an honor graduate. He graduated with honors from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (ULL) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He also completed an Executive MBA program at Louisiana State University.
Peter was an accomplished high school athlete. He was a two-time All-District and All-State pitcher in baseball and quarterbacked the Notre Dame Pioneer football team to the 1976 AA State Championship.
Peter was employed as a production engineer by Unocal from 1982 to 1988, supervising the operation and maintenance of 250 wells as well as onshore and offshore facilities. From 1988 to 2006, he was employed by Rubicon LLC, where he served as Area Production Superintendent, managing a staff of production personnel. From 2006 until the time of his death, he was employed by Stone Energy, where his title was Engineer Integrity and Maintenance.
Peter was a long time parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. He also served as Chair of the St. Michael the Archangel High School (Baton Rouge) Advisory Board, and was Sponsorship Chair of the American Cancer Society Baton Rouge Relay for Life for four years. He served on the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Chemical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board. He was a beloved member of the Baton Rouge Ancient Athlete Society since 1999. Peter also served as a volunteer coach for countless youth sports teams.
Peter is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Donna Wyatt Trahan; one daughter and son-in-law, Allison T. Saltzman and Kevin Saltzman; one son, Christopher Edwin Trahan; his mother, Mary Stritch Trahan of Crowley; four sisters, Marian T. Hundley of Crowley; Melanie T. Hensgens (Keith) of Gueydan; Mary T. Cumbus (Ken) of Baton Rouge; and Laura T. Frank (Miles) of Crowley; four brothers, Philip A. Trahan, Sr. (Karen) of Monroe; John D. Trahan (M’elise) of Crowley; Patrick J. Trahan (Lynn) of Lafayette; and Thomas G. Trahan of Monroe; his in-laws, Coy and Estelle Zaunbrecher Wyatt of Abbeville; twenty-seven nieces and nephews; one great-niece and two great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glady J. Trahan; his grandparents, Calise and Amy Simon Trahan of Crowley, and Patrick and Nora Mason Stritch of London, England.
Pallbearers will be his brothers Philip, John, Patrick and Thomas, his god-sons Joseph Trahan, Gregory Trahan and Jeffrey Frank.
