North Vermilion soccer team falls in playoffs

BATON ROUGE - The North Vermilion Patriots soccer team dropped a 6-1 match to St. Michaels the Archangel on Thursday in the Division III playoffs.
The Patriots quickly fell behind 2-0 and then were down 3-0 at halftime.
It was 5-0 before NV scored its first goal.
Connor Dupuy scored the Patriots only goal late in the second half. Grant Touchet with the assist.
The Patriots, seeded No. 7, finishes the year 18-5-4, while St. Michaels, the No. 7 seed, moves on to play No. 2 ED White.
St. Michaels had a scare in the first half.

North Vermilion soccer team moves on to 2nd round

The North Vermilion Patriots Soccer Team advanced to the second round of the soccer playoffs after beating the Cecilia Tigers, 4-1, on Friday.
The Patriots (19-4-4) will travel to Baton Rouge to battle No. 7 seed St. Michaels. The match will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
While the score looked like a blowout, in the first half, it was a close match.
The Patriots led 2-1 at halftime. Conner Patin kicked both goals for NV.
Two more goals by Brant Guidry and Connor Dupuy in the second half secured the victory.
With assists were Hunter Hulin, Guidry and Patin.

Kaplan’s Julius Johnson inks with Louisiana College

KAPLAN — Dozens of players from around Acadiana, including seven from Vermilion Parish, signed football scholarships Wednesday on National Signing Day.
Kaplan’s Julius Johnson, arguably one of the best players in the area, went about his day on Wednesday, with no scholarship signed.
That came Thursday morning when Johnson inked his letter of intent to play football for Louisiana College in Pineville.
“I am so happy about this,” Johnson said. “It feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders.”

Vermilion Catholic sweeps Hanson

Things did not start off too well for the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles against the Hanson Lady Tigers, but they ended well.
The Lady Eagles fell behind in the first period by as much as eight points, but then VC went on an 11-4 run in the second quarter and led 32-24 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles went on to win 58-48.
“We changed defenses against them,” said VC head coach Kim Guidry. “We were in a box and 1 (defense) but then their guards made outside shots. We switched to a man-to-man defense.”
