Abbeville Lady Wildcats drop first round playoff game

The Abbeville Lady Wildcats fell to the West Feliciana Lady Saints 66-61 in the first round of the Division II Non-Select playoffs Thursday night.
The Lady Cats (17-6) started strong, racing out to a 14-6 lead midway through the opening quarter. Myka Johnson’s jumper in the lane gave Abbeville its biggest lead of the game at 21-12 with 1:28 to play in the first.
That’s when the wheels started to come off for the Lady Cats. D’Jaiyah Levy picked up her third foul and had to exit the game for the remainder of the half.

Erath track team sets new school record

NEW SCHOOL RECORD - The Erath High 4x800 team set a new school indoor track record of 8:42.89 and placed fourth at the LHSAA Indoor State Track Meet at LSU. They missed the podium by .4 second. The 4x800 team members are and their times they ran: (Left to Right) junior Lawson Broussard- (2:10), junior Cameron Soirez- (2:05) junior Cadn Lange- (2:12) and freshman Connor Lange- (2:14); The alternate was junior Braxton Bright.

Abbeville High boys powerlifting team has four first place finishers at regional meet

The Abbeville High boys’ powerlifting team performed exceptionally well at the boys’ west regional powerlifting meet last week.
They competed against all divisions in the west regionals and secured four first-place finishes in four weight classes.
Carter Robertson won the 123-pound weight class with a total lift of 1,075 pounds by squatting 415 pounds, benching 235, and deadlifting 425 pounds.
In the same weight class, Brennan Seaux of Delcambre finished fourth.

Lady Pirates fall to Green Devils in playoffs

The Kaplan Lady Pirates basketball season came to an end with a 44-33 road-loss to the Plaquemine Green Devils in the first round of the Division III Non-Select playoffs Thursday night.
While no one expected the Lady Pirates to be in the playoffs when the season started, Kaplan head coach Tina Roy felt she had the better team and should have won the game.
“I don’t think we were ready to play,” said Roy. “I feel like we were the better team, but we played to their level.”

Two parish boy's teams make basketball playoffs

The LHSAA released the boy’s playoff brackets Monday afternoon, and two parish teams are in.
Under first-year head coach John Thompson, Vermilion Catholic is No. 9 and will play a first-round home game this week.
The Eagles (15-6) will play Central Private (10-19), the No. 24th seed, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Thompson, a VC graduate, is excited to be in the playoffs.
“I’m very excited and proud of our kids for buying into a first-year head coach’s beliefs and philosophy,” Thompson said. “I had certain expectations for this year, and we accomplished quite a few.
