The American Legion Auxiliary Vermilion Unit 29 of Abbeville held their installation of officers on July 21, 2010.

The Legion and Auxiliary held a joint installation. There were guest who traveled from as far away as Chauvin.

The Third District was well represented and the Legion Hall was packed. The food was delicious and we would like to thank the cooks for another job well done.

Barbara White, the auxiliary president for the Department of Louisiana, was the installing officer.

She spoke of the challenge she made with the Department Commander Dan Leonard and asked for our help with membership.

Her membership theme is based on the show, “Charlie’s Angels”.

We will definitely have fun with membership this year and urge all members to join us. I am sure each of us knows someone who is eligible for the Auxiliary and would enjoy working with us in the community.

Nancy Lowery, the third district president, read an article that was given to her that night by Marian Davidson

The article was about the yearlong National campaign to promote the “Spirit of ‘45.” Aug. 14, 2010, will be the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII.

There is currently a resolution in the House of Representatives supporting the observance of the “Spirit of ‘45 Day”.

For more information on this subject, you can go to www.spiritof45.org.

Susan Vincent, one of our members, was recognized for her title of “Woman of the Year’ for the Department of Louisiana.

She will be leaving for Milwaukee, Wis. Aug. 30, where she will be treated to a luncheon and have her picture taken with the national president. Susan is the youngest daughter of Harold and Marian Davidson. The Davidson family was named the “All American Family for 2009-2010” for the Department of Louisiana.
