Miss Kori Michelle David of Abbeville, and Mr. Sean Michael Comeaux of Youngsville, were joined in holy matrimony during a ceremony held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville.
Father William Blanda officiated the 6:30 p.m. nuptial Mass.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dirk David of Abbeville. Her grandparents are Mrs. Del Dean David and the late Dale David of Cow Island, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Bourque and the late Gayle Bourque, of Abbeville.
The groom is the son of Ms. Donna A. Comeaux of New Iberia and Mr. and Mrs. S. Michael Comeaux of Youngsville, La. His grandparents are Karl Andrus and the late Mary Ann Andrus, the late Willie Comeaux and Mrs. Marie Comeaux, Mrs. Eva Delcambre and the late Dalton, Delcambre, all of New Iberia.
Music for the wedding was provided by Xiao-LuLi, violinist; Jennifer Melancon, vocalist; Tommy Guidry, organist and Jared Gray, trumpeter.
Readings were given by Blaire Desormeaux, cousin of the bride; Analyse David, cousin of the bride and David Brady, uncle of the groom.
Ushers were Clay Bourque, uncle of the bride; Casey David, cousin of the bride and Matthew Brady, cousin of the groom.
The mother of the bride was escorted by her brother, Clay Bourque. She wore a champagne colored, sleeveless, hand beaded lace, knee length sheath, with a lace illusion high modified halter neckline with a beaded collar and sweetheart bodice. A matching shawl completed the ensemble.
The mother of the groom was escorted by her son, Sean Comeaux. She wore a navy lace gown with a boat neckline elbow length sleeves with a long, flowing illustrious skirt.
The stepmother of the groom was escorted by S. Michael Comeaux. She wore a champagne colored tea-length metallic lace ruched satin evening gown.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory antique lace fit and flare gown, edged with a floral motif accented with crystal and pearl beading. The gown also featured an illusion back fastened with covered buttons finishing with a cathedral train. Her fingertip veil was accentuated with a delicate edge of sparkle crystal and pearls.
She carried a hand tied cascading bouquet of burgundy dahlias, miniature paco calla lilies, porcelina spray roses, open playa blanc garden roses intertwined with misty pink ribbon.
Claire David, sister of the bride served as maid of honor. Matron of honor was Karlie Dartez, sister of the groom. Bridesmaids included Nicole Bengtson, friend of the bride and Madison Soley, friend of the bride. Flower girl was Averie Bengtson, friend of the bride.
The attendants wore wine colored floor length chiffon dresses. Each bridesmaid carried a smaller replica of the bride’s bouquet.
Alex Romero, friend of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen included Josh Dartez, brother-in-law of the groom; Grant Trahan, friend of the groom and Kyle Tizzard, friend of the groom. Avery Dartez, godchild of the groom, served as ring bearer.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Magdalen Place in Abbeville.
Upon their return from a wedding trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado, the couple will reside in Youngsville, La.

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Aline Bourque Broussard, 101, who died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Kaplan Healthcare Center. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Paul Bienvenu officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Broussard, Jr., Samuel Broussard, Jr., Marcus Dubone, Kade Abshire, Mathieu Dubone, and Kameron Abshire. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Marvin Broussard.
She is survived by her two sons, Johnny Roy Broussard of Jackson, MS and Marvin Dale Broussard and his wife, Susan of Kentland, IN; two daughters-in-law, Kathleen McCoy Broussard of Fredericktown, MO and Mary Vidrine Broussard of Oberlin; seven grandchildren, Kristie Broussard Head and her husband, Steve of Fredericktown, MO, Melissa Broussard Kline and her husband, Todd of Fredericktown, MO, Thomas Broussard, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Jackson, MO, Machella Broussard Dubone and her husband, Mark of Moss Bluff, Ann-Jeanette Broussard Abshire and her husband, Kent of Kaplan, Samuel Broussard, Jr. of Center Point, and Johnathon Broussard and his wife, Jessica of Cleveland, MS; 16 great grandchildren, Sara, Kaitlyn, Michael, Jay, Ben, Patrick, Alaina, Reed, Addison, Marcus, Mathieu, Kade, Kameron, Sarah, Beth, and Mylie; and five great-great grandchildren, Eli, Kase, Xander, Maddox, Karter, and Kamille.

ABBEVILLE – Funeral services for Etheline Marie Plowden Hills is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church – 300 S. Lamar Street – Abbeville, LA with burial in St. Paul Cemetery. Pastor Ennis Sullivan will officiate the service.
Etheline P. Hills, 67, a long-time resident of Abbeville who devoted thirty years of her life to the children of Vermilion Parish as a third grade teacher at Eaton Park Elementary School passed away on June 14, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
She leaves to mourn her daughter, Tavonjia Lynn Hills and her grand children Dominiqua Lorenza Hills and DeVante’ LeSean Scott of Abbeville, LA; her step-children, Gracie Hills, Carlton Hills, Melissa Hills, Mary Hills-Landry (Jerome) and Tony Petry all of Abbeville, LA; one brother, Glen E. Plowden, Sr. (Lucy) of Abbeville, LA; three sisters, Annie B. Fuselier of Maurice, LA; Shirley P. Bernard (Gerald) and Beverly P. Services set for Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton

Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton died on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his father, Scranton Alfred Mouton, Sr., mother, Inez Genevieve von Phul Mouton, brother, Scranton Alfred Mouton, Jr., and sister-in-law, Margaret Apple Mouton. He is survived by his brothers, Frank Anthony Mouton and Marc Gilbert Mouton, Sr., sister-in-law Betty LaCour Mouton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard Mouton was born on March 17, 1931 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was baptized on March 25 of the same year at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, where he would later attend primary school and receive the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation. Entering minor seminary at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Covington, Louisiana in 1944, he quickly distinguished himself as a devoted and intellectual servant of Christ. He was ordained at the Cathedral on June 4, 1955 and assigned as Associate Pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Abbeville before pursuing his doctoral degree in Rome. After composing and successfully defending his thesis, entitled “The Role of the Holy Spirit in the Mass,” Father Mouton returned to Louisiana and was assigned to Immaculate Conception Parish in Lake Charles. In 1962, Father Mouton attended the Second Vatican Council, accompanying Bishop Maurice Shexnayder, and would later be appointed Peritus Concilii Vaticani Secundi (Expert of the Second Vatican Council), going on to attend three of the four sessions of the Council.
In June 1966, Father Mouton was elevated to Monsignor Mouton, and was subsequently made Superintendent of Catholic Schools in June 1967. He served in this capacity until receiving his first assignment as Pastor at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Abbeville in 1973. In February 1987, Monsignor Mouton was assigned as Pastor of St. Pius X Church in Lafayette. During his time as Pastor, Monsignor participated in the development of various pastoral ministries, most notably the development of St. Thomas More Catholic High School and the founding of St. Pius X Elementary School. On July 1, 2007, Monsignor took up residence as a Senior Priest at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, where he remained until the end of his life.
If the loss of faith is a life’s greatest tragedy, then surely its preservation is a life’s greatest triumph; Monsignor Mouton was certainly a great guardian of the Church and preserved Her teachings through his ministry to the many who loved him.

“I value the priesthood I have been graced to share in…I have happily done what I was asked to do by my Bishop, ministering to his flock, hopefully, with zeal and charity. God knows and I praise Him for the graces I believe He gave me in doing so. All the good I have done I have truly done by the grace of God.”

This person was walking through high water at Don's Boat Landing in Boston. He was going check on his boat that was in the Boston Canal.

Remy Landry Park in Delcambre was flooded Thursday morning.

These two boat trailers were underwater. They were parked across the street from Don's Boat Landing in Boston on Thursday morning.

Water was close to getting into the Delcambre Shrimp Building, which is located near the canal.

The south wind caused the water to rise near Pecan Island. No one was allowed in Rollover Landing because of high water.

While this homeowner is not worried about their home getting flooded, they are worried about their truck flooding in Delcambre.

South WInd Floods parts of Vermilion Parish

Vermilion Parish escaped strong winds and a storm surge on Thursday. But what it did not escape was flooding thanks to the south wind of Tropical Storm Cindy.
Around 8:30 Thursday morning, with the high tide in, the water began to flow north. It did not take long for the water to overflow onto the streets of Delcambre and south of Henry by Boston.

March 18, 1952 - June 21, 2017

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Gaylan "Scoop" Trahan, 65, who passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.
Gaylan became a passionate crawfish and cattle farmer after his employment with Unocal for 32 years. He was a true handyman and there was nothing he couldn't fix. He was a hard worker and a great role model. Scoop never met a stranger and he definitely had a contagious laugh. He loved music, LSU football, Mardi Gras, hunting, and fishing. Family meant the most to him and he enjoyed having them over for Sunday meals. Gaylan will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Wanda Trahan of Kaplan; two sons, Aaron Trahan and his wife, Brittney of Judice and David Trahan of Kaplan; two daughters, Jenny and her husband, Jodie Broussard of Kaplan and Paula and her husband, Barret LeMaire of Lafayette; two sisters, Verdine Trahan of Lafayette and Cheryl and her husband, Glynn Pierret of Judice; one brother, Carlin Trahan and his wife, Faye of Erath; and ten grandchildren, Dylan, Lauren, Gabriel, Aidan, Emma, Olivia, Jacob, Joshua, Abigial, and Amelia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurest John Trahan and the former Daisy Mae Suire.

Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Crash near Abbeville

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single vehicle fatality crash on US 167 near Redwood Road north of Abbeville. The crash claimed the life of 53-year-old Joseph L. Redmond of Opelousas.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Redmond was driving a 2006 Mercedes Benz 280 southbound on US 167 approaching a left curve in the roadway. Redmond failed to negotiate the curve and ran off of the rights side of the roadway. Redmond’s vehicle continued to travel off of the roadway, striking a culvert, and a utility pole.
Redmond, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office
It is unknown if impairment is a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from Redmond and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists about the dangers of distracted driving. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Gov. Edwards declares state of emergency

BATON ROUGE — Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Louisiana in response to flash flooding and severe weather as a result of Tropical Storm Cindy.
“All arms of the state’s emergency preparedness and response apparatus are taking Tropical Storm Cindy seriously, and we are calling on all Louisianans throughout the state to do so as well,” said Gov. Edwards. “State and local officials are working around the clock to monitor and respond to dangerous situations as they develop. In the meantime, please do all you can to prepare for the worst while praying for the best.”
Edwards is receiving the latest updates on Tropical Storm Cindy in the Gulf of Mexico from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) and the National Weather Service (NWS). GOHSEP is currently in 24 hour operations and is coordinating with state agencies, parish officials and first responders who are putting resources in place for citizens who may need assistance.

Delores Jane Simon Stoute

ERATH – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Delores S. Stoute, age 85, at 10:00AM on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. David Hebert officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum.
Visitation will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Friday from 8:30AM until Mass with a rosary being recited at 9:00AM by the Catholic Daughters.
Mrs. Stoute passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
Delores was born on February 27, 1932 to the late Edval and Elodie Dubois Simon and was one of five children. She married the love of her life Vories J. Stoute in 1951 and they had three children. She worked as an office manager for Dr. Bernard Lahasky, Dr. David Lahasky, and also for Scott Hollier. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends during camping trips and going on vacations to the beach. She had a passion for working with children and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for years. Later in life she enjoyed painting, quilting, knitting, and crochet. Most of all she loved to cook and entertain for family and friends. Delores was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Vories J. Stoute of Erath; her children Timothy P. Stoute of Erath, Kassey S. LeBlanc and husband Tim of Texas, Hope S. Hebert and husband Sean of Youngsville; two brothers, Roger Simon and wife Sabra of Erath, Edval Simon and wife Barbara of Delcambre; one sister, Liben Broussard of Meaux; half-sister, Ruby Simon of Erath; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edval and Elodie Dubois Simon; one sister, Lolian Volges; and two granddaughters, Heather and Michelle LeBlanc.
The family would like to give special thanks to the sitters who sat with Mrs. Delores, Patra Daugereau and Lisa Knight, the staff of Lafayette General Medical Center ICU, and Acadian Homecare.
