Six businesses in Vermilion Parish violate employees wearing mask order

Six Vermilion Parish businesses failed inspections in July after being warned for violating face mask covering order for employees.
According to records from the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office, Kaplan had three businesses while Gueydan, Maurice and Erath had each one.
Abbeville, the largest city in the parish, did not have one business fail the inspection.
Lafayette had eight businesses with violations, while New Iberia and Crowley had each five.

Accident causes lights to go out in Abbeville

As much as half of Abbeville lost power early Thursday morning.
An electrical crew from the city responded around 4 a.m. after a crash, near Super 1 Foods, on the La. 14 Bypass, which led to damage to two primary electrical lines. The crew had power restored around 6 a.m.
“It was a major outage,” Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza said. “Most of the south and east sides of the city were affected. Our electrical superintendent said it was close to half the town.
“That is around 2,000 customers.”

Cajun musician Jamie Bergeron fired by Acadian Ambulance after posting cartoon

A Cajun musician is without a job after he was fired because of a cartoon he posted on the Internet.
Jamie Bergeron of Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin’ Cajuns, a successful recording group with at least seven albums and a successful touring, nightclub and festival schedule, got into trouble after posting a cartoon of a car hitting protesters in a roadway under the heading, “All Lives Splatter.” Another post suggested “my brakes have been acting up” when referencing people who protest in the roadways.
