The bridge has been closed since June 20.

Abbeville's Downtown bridge expected to reopen next Wednesday

Despite rumors of a lengthy closure, the bridge in downtown Abbeville is expected to reopen next week.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) closed the bridge on June 20 to make repairs. The initial estimate for closure had the work completed after three weeks.
Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza said he spoke with Rep. Bob Hensgens Tuesday afternoon. Hensgens spoke with a Bill Oliver of the DOTD about the bridge earlier in the day. Oliver told Hensgens that the bridge is likely to be reopened on July 18.
“DOTD confirmed that the part was taking a little bit longer to come in than they thought,” Piazza said. “It is one week behind schedule. The part is going to be in next week and it will be fixed and operational by the 18th.”
Piazza said there have not been any major issues as far as the city has been concerned.
“There haven’t been any incidents as far as emergency personnel goes,” Piazza said.
The Abbeville Fire Department has set up a temporary headquarters on the west side of the Vermilion River. The substation on that side of the river is currently being rebuilt.
“They do have a presence throughout the day,” Piazza said. “They have taken care of that issue.”
Piazza said he has received numerous calls from businesses in the area.
“That has been the biggest issue,” Piazza said.
