77% of Abbeville General’s employees live in Vermilion Parish

There are 466 people who work at Abbeville General and 77 percent of them live in Vermilion Parish.
At a recent police jury meeting, Abbeville General CEO FACHE Ray Landry presented this information to the jurors. He wanted to show how important the hospital is to the parish because a majority of the people who work there, are from the parish.

Paul Landry celebrates 103rd birthday with his family

Living Legend Paul L. Landry celebrated another year of independence with a party at his home in Perry.
God has blessed him with '103 years of life experiences and he treats each day as a gift.
He and his wife Edola Perry Landry shared 77 years together and had three daughters: Judy Choate, Paulette Landry and Connie Durand, eight grandchildren, 10 grand children, and two great-great grandsons.
Edola passed away at the age of 99.

Lafitte Drive-In land will one day be location for new Abbeville park

Going to the Lafitte Drive-in movie is a memory shared by so many who grew up in Abbeville.
Abbeville officials are hoping that the land the drive-in once called home will be a special place for future generations.
The Abbeville City Council voted last week to move forward with the plan to turn about 15 acres that used to be the site of the drive-in into a city park. The city purchased the land last year from the deGrauww family, which owned the drive-in. The land will be combined with adjacent property the city already owned to create a large recreational area.

Abbeville receives clean audit; oversight credited

The City of Abbeville has once again received a clean audit.
The City Council recently heard the update of the audit for the fiscal year that ended on Dec. 31, 2016.
Steve Moosa of Darnel, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick provided the update on the report.
“It’s a clean audit,” Moosa said. “Everything is in line with proper accounting standards. The accounting department maintained records, so we had no issue obtaining those records.
“Things were in order.”
