Abbeville police searching for vehicle who hit man near Tractor Supply Store

A man is fighting for his life in a Lafayette Hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Hwy. 14, near Tractor Supply Store in Abbeville.
According to Abbeville Police Chief Mike Hardy, a male was found unconscious in the middle of Hwy. 14 Tuesday at around 7 a.m.
A Sheriff’s patrol car was first on scene, followed by the Abbeville Police Department.
The man was rushed to Abbeville General and then flown to a Lafayette Hospital, where he had to have two surgeries because of head injuries.

Gen. Bob LeBlanc passes at the age of 101 at his home in Abbeville

Nov. 6 holds a special significance for General Robert J. LeBlanc as it marks his date of birth, his discharge from active service in WWII, and now his date of burial.
On Nov. 6, 2021, the LeBlanc family celebrated his 100th birthday with a party, during which he spoke of his discharge from active duty on his birthday 76 years prior.
Sadly, LeBlanc passed away Saturday at the age of 101, days before he would have turned 102. He died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home.
He was 101 years old and would have turned 102 on Nov. 6.

Abbeville Mayor Roslyn White, by herself, was directing traffic Saturday at the intersection of State Street and La. 14 Bypass (near McDonald's and Burger King). She was doing her best to redirect traffic away from going over the bypass bridge, because the bridge was open for boat traffic.

Most of Abbeville without electricity for 2 1/2 hours

The city of Abbeville was without power for 2 1/2 hours on Saturday afternoon.
It is believed that a cropduster airplane clipped an Entergy electrical power line that feeds electricity into Abbeville.
The lights went out around noon and came back on at around 2:15 p.m.
It was not known Saturday afternoon the status of the airplane or pilot.
Mayor Roslyn White, during the power outage, directed traffic by herself at the corner the La. 14 Bypass and State Street (by McDonald's and Burger King).

Abbeville lady takes care of 16 graves for All Saints Day

In honor of All Saints Day on Nov. 1, Linda Bourque is spending the next few days changing out artificial flowers and cleaning graves at three different cemeteries in Vermilion Parish.
All Saints Day is a Christian holiday to honor the dead. Bourque will visit 16 different graves of her family members and friends, even though no one asks her to do it.
On Wednesday afternoon, Bourque fixed the flower arrangement on her grandmother’s grave behind Vermilion Catholic High School.
She removed the old plastic flowers, put them in a plastic bag, and brought them to her SUV.

A ribbon cutting was held last week in front of Rev. James A. Herod house. Attending were Pastor Walter August, Mayor Roslyn White, councilman Carlton Campbell, Councilwoman Terry Broussard, Police Juror Ronald Darby and members of the Nehemiah Projects of Acadiana.

It’s fascinating to think that many people know the name “James A. Herod” because of a school in Abbeville, but very few are aware of the significant impact that Rev. James A. Herod had on education, particularly in the black community of Abbeville.
Thankfully, Pastor Walter August, an Abbeville native and current pastor in Houston, is changing that.
With the help of the Nehemiah Projects of Acadiana, more and more Abbeville citizens are learning about the remarkable life and legacy of Rev. James A. Herod than ever before.
