Giant Omelette Celebration is back!

After a two-year absence, the Giant Omelette Celebration is happening in Abbeville this weekend.
The Omelette Celebration took time off the last two years because of COVID.
The Omelette Celebration will take place on Saturday and Sunday in downtown Abbeville.
The Celebration begins Saturday morning with the 5-K run, and the following will be the start of the arts and crafts show, along with the food show.
The Saturday events will stop at 5 p.m. and start again Sunday at 6 a.m. with a bike ride.

Agents located 10 ounces of crystal methamphetamine during arrests.

Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force arrests two

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force recently made narcotics arrests in the parish.
On Oct. 24, task force agents were working on an investigation in reference to drug activity in the Kaplan area. Agents were able to obtain substantial information which led to the search of 154 Richlieu Circle, in Kaplan. During the search of the residence agents located approximately 10 ounces of crystal methamphetamine.

100-years-old: Domingue takes life ‘one day at a time’

What do you do when you turn 100? You celebrate with your children, of course. And that is what Jeanne Hebert Domingue did on her milestone birthday.
Domingue celebrated with her five children at Woodbriar Assisted Living in Maurice.
She is not surprised to reach the 100-year mark because she has had relatives live to 102 and 103 years old.
“I am 100 years old today,” said Domingue. “All my kids are with me, so I am very happy.”
Her children traveled from Florida, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona to share in this special occasion.

Vermilion Parish Superintendent Tommy Byler reminds everyone about the new rule changes for high school football home games on Thursday and Friday.
Tonight there will be two public school football games in Vermilion Parish, and on Friday, there will be one,
The Abbeville Wildcats entertain the St. Martinville Tigers in a district showdown tonight. The game was moved to Thursday due to a possible rainstorm.
Another game that moved was the Gueydan High/Oberlin High School game. That game is also being played on Thursday.

The police jury will also have about $3.5 million more to spend on road repairs after it approved the re-allocation of some ARPA funds as the Public Road Committee recommended.
The committee had decided at its Oct. 5 meeting to recommend the movement of $3,487,500 toward roads. The money had previously been intended for the parish water districts.
