SpaceX new sponsor of Giant Omelette Celebration

Across more than 40 years, thousands of visitors have come to Abbeville to enjoy the Giant Omelette Celebration.
And none have had to pay an entry fee for that enjoyment.
That is thanks in large part to sponsors that have supported the celebration over the years, a list that will now include SpaceX. When the 42nd Annual Giant Omelette Celebration rolls around Nov. 7-8, the aerospace company will be among its backers.
“I reached out to a representative of SpaceX to offer them a sponsorship opportunity for Abbeville’s Giant Omelette,” said Arlene Collée, a longtime member of the Abbeville Confrérie, the organization that conducts the celebration. “They were very interested in supporting our event and were excited about possibly sending someone to participate.”
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry announced on Aug. 25 that SpaceX will build a $100 billion spaceport near Pecan Island. Construction is expected to begin sometime in 2027, with the first launch slated for ‘29.
“I feel they will be a great community partner for the duration of their business life here,” Collée said. “We look forward to showing them some local hospitality.”
Along with its new connection to the Giant Omelette, SpaceX has also joined as a member of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce. Claire Broussard, the chamber’s executive director, said she is pleased to see both moves take place.
“Something is cooking in Vermilion Parish, and it’s giant omelettes and giant opportunities,” Broussard said. “We’re excited to welcome SpaceX to both traditions. Seeing them support local events like the Giant Omelette Celebration is a wonderful first step in becoming part of what makes our community so special.
“We look forward to the economic opportunities they will bring, but it’s just as exciting to see them investing in the community they now call home.”
While grateful for the new sponsorship, Collée said the Confrérie remains strongly appreciative of those who have helped make the celebration a success through the years.
“Although they are one of our newest sponsors,” Collée said, “we are very thankful for all our sponsors who have supported our organization throughout the years. We could not offer a free festival to our community and visitors without their long-standing support.
“We are happy to add SpaceX to that list.”
