Cecile Mire Mayard

July 26, 1919-February 12, 2017

Abbeville-A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday February 14, 2017 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville, LA. Cecile Mire Mayard left to be with Lord at the age of 97 on Sunday February 12, 2017 at Eastridge Nursing Home.
She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. Reverend Louis J. Richard will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Con Celebrant will be Reverend Floyd J. Calais and Reverend Chester Arceneaux.
Cecile was born in Andrew, LA to the late Nazire Mire and Nella Duhon Mire on July 26, 1919 and was a resident of Abbeville for most of her life. Cecile was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and friend. Many of Abbeville’s brides remember Ms. Cecile as “the lady at Bordelon’s” who helped them set up their bridal registry. She retired from Bordelon Hardware after 25 years in the Bridal Department. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening, but baking was her greatest pleasure. A visit to her home almost came with a guarantee that one would leave with a cake or lemon pie that had been prepared with love and enjoyment. She loved laughing with friends and always loved a good joke. A kind and generous person, she was always ready and willing to help and give to someone in need.
Cecile loved and lived her faith by participating in daily mass for most of her life. She was a Eucharistic and Homebound Minister for over 40 years. She also served the church by counting the church offerings and as a member of the Altar Society and the Lay Carmelites.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Florine Mayard Veazey and Janel Mayard Clark, and her son-in-law, Raymond “Tish” Clark. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Nancy Veazey Comeaux and Joey Veazey; one great grandson, Nicholas J. Comeaux and his wife, Nicole Simon Comeaux; a great granddaughter, Jessica Comeaux LeBlanc and her husband Matt LeBlanc. Cecile, also known as “Granny”, is also survived by four great great grandchildren, James and Christian Comeaux and Zoe Elizabeth and Kyleigh Elise LeBlanc. Also left to cherish a lifetime of memories are her sister, Melba Breaux and two sisters-in-law, Maudry T. Mire and Nola B. Meyers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Cecile was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Olivier Mayard; brother, Louis J. Mire; nephew, Patrick Ray Breaux; and her son-in-law, Roland “Snow” Veazey.
At the funeral mass, readings will be done by her granddaughter, Nancy Veazey Comeaux and godchild, Deborah Meaux.
Gift bearers will be her grandson Joey Veazey and her great grandchildren Jessica LeBlanc and Nicholas Comeaux.
Pallbearers will be Kern Meyers, Andre Motty, Jerome Meaux, Keith Bergeron, Matt LeBlanc, Raleigh Mayard and Michael Breaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Duhon, Randy Delcambre, Raymond Clark and Russell Richard
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to family and friends for the love and support shown in the last few months of Cecile’s life here on earth. Special thanks are also extended to the Hospice of Acadiana Staff, especially Robin Broussard, Stephanie Claudel and Jenee Segura. Appreciation is also extended to the CNAs, sitters and all the staff of Eastridge Nursing Home for the special care and attention shown to Cecile.
