MAURICE — Jessica Dawn Baker, age 51, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at the Calcutta House in Lafayette.
Jessica was born on December 13, 1974 in Abbeville and she was a resident of Maurice. She was an amazing caretaker, putting the needs of others ahead of herself always. Jessica took great pride in her secretary work, bringing care and attention to detail to everything she did and always giving her absolute best. Locally, she was a familiar and welcoming face to many through her time working at Patriot Inn in Maurice, where her dedication and lively presence touched countless friends and patrons.
She was an avid puzzle solver; she found both joy and relaxation in the pastime, often meditating in her recliner as she pieced them together on her large easel. Those who truly knew Jessica knew she was a devoted fan of "I Love Lucy," and she built a cherished, extensive collection of memorabilia dedicated to her favorite show. Her warm, caretaking spirit will be remembered by the many lives that she touched, and she will be greatly missed.
Jessica is survived by her husband of 35 years, Shane Baker; her daughter, Elizabeth Baker; her parents, Daisy Masich and Bev Masich; her siblings, Angie Meaux and Daryl Istre; her step-sister, Liz Louviere; her aunt, Charlotte Lalande; as well as her nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, the Calcutta House, and Hospice of Acadiana for the special care and thoughtful compassion that they offered Jessica in her time of need.
