Melvin Lee Vincent

March 12, 1936 ~ January 4, 2022

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 7, 2022 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Melvin Lee Vincent, 85, who died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Abbeville General Hospital. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Louis J. Richard officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Jared Scalisi, Kyle Delahoussaye, Benjamin Norman, Bryce Scalisi, Jackson Scalisi and Alric Delahoussaye.
At one point Melvin worked as a deputy sheriff for the Vermilion Parish Sheriff Office. He retired as a local postman after 35 years with the United States Postal Service.
He is survived by his brother Farrell Vincent of Kaplan; daughters, Annette Meaux and her husband, Sandy of Rayne, Cyndie Miller and her husband, Mark of Lafayette, and Tammy Delahoussaye and her husband, Alric of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Jared Scalisi and his wife, Amy of Abbeville, Stephanie McKinney and her husband, Cliff of Jacksonville, FL, Bridget Primeaux of Rayne, Kyle Delahoussaye and his wife, Kim of Breaux Bridge, and Benjamin Norman and his wife, Jessica of Lafayette; step-grandchildren, Alyssa Miller, Mallory Dubus, Jamie Meaux, Justin Meaux, Travis Delahoussaye; great grandchildren, Bryce Scalisi, Jackson Scalisi, Jailyn Campbell, Lillian and Amelia McKinney, Brayden Norman, Zoë Delahousaye and Mason Delahoussaye; step-great-grandchildren, Victoria Schreifer, Olivia Frederick, Aubri Hebert, Brylan, Berlynn, Dagan and Ashtyn Delahoussaye; and great-great grandchildren, Emma Grace Scalisi, Graham and Wren White.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Palombo Vincent; and parents, Leonce and Laurence Vincent of Kaplan.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 PM; Friday, January 7, 2022 from 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM when the procession will depart for the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations may be made in Melvin L. Vincent’s memory to The Alzheimer's Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
