Wilma Dell Thibeaux Green went home to her Lord and Savior at 9:32 p.m. on June 2, 2021 at the blessed age of 83. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her earthly departure. She was a beautiful soul and her absence has shifted our family’s world. As her earthly family, we mourn her dearly. But as her family in Christ, we rejoice because we know she is no longer suffering and she is at peace.
She was born in Abbeville, Louisiana to Ernest Thibeaux and Syrila Joiner Thibeaux on October 19, 1937. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior. She often told us kids about the joy she felt every time she attended prayer service with her grandmother. As an adult, she continued her love of worship with her mother and her children.
She was a student of Abbeville Training School and James A. Herod and she worked for the Abbeville Head Start program for over 15 years. She loved to work. Be it in the house or the yard, you would always find her keeping busy. She worked until she could work no more.
She was employed at several jobs over the course of her life, but her most rewarding job was that of mother and grandmother.
Our mother was a woman of God who found joy in rearing her children. She found even more joy and fulfillment in caring for her grandchildren. As the matriarch of our large family, she was the driving force of countless family gatherings. Those were the times that brought the most light, love, and happiness to her.
She was many things to many people. She was a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt, and a friend.
She will be greatly missed by those left to cherish the memories they made together. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Green, Kathy Rice, Regina Briscoe, Joan Miller (Charles), Toynette LeDay (Murphy), and Tracey Irvine (Troy); her siblings, Helen Perry and Claude Thibeaux (Linda); her forever sons-in-law, Ronald Briscoe and Gerald Wiltz; and her grandkids, Shawn Broussard, Greg Broussard, Dexter George, Scarlett Brown, Deshawn Green, Dion Green, Brian Briscoe, Summer Allen, Joseph Allen, Jr., Carly LeDay, Kaman LeDay, and Bailee Irvine. She also leaves to cherish sweet memories a host of great grandkids, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Heaven rejoices as she reunites with loved ones who previously passed on to be with the Lord. They include her baby boy Joseph Green, Jr. and her daughter, Debra Wiltz; her parents, Ernest and Syrila Thibeaux; her husband of 35 years, Joseph Green, Sr.; her brothers, Herman, Alfred, and Ezekiel Thibeaux; her sisters, Hilda Shelvin, Clementine Thibeaux, and Betty Grogan; her grandkids, Courtney Briscoe and Dwight Brown; her sons-in-law, Joseph Allen, Sr. and Brian Irvine; her best friend, Mary Ann Campbell and many more family members and friends.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to Kinchen Funeral Home. On behalf of our dear mother, we would like to thank everyone who had a part in supporting us during our time of need. Thanks to Bridgeway Hospice for sending us such amazing nurses and staff. A special thank you goes to Nurse Gail for the dedication and love she showed our mom and Nurse Crystal for being there with us during Mom’s final hours.
