Nourish to Prevent series to be offered in Vermilion Parish

The LSU AgCenter Nutrition & Community Health (NCH) program is pleased to announce a new program, Nourish to Prevent aimed at helping residents reduce the risk of cancer through diet and lifestyle.
The Nourish to Prevent series will be offered by NCH Agent and Registered Dietitian, Mandy Armentor, at the Vermilion Parish LSU AgCenter office (1105 W. Port Street, Abbeville, LA) on Thursday, Feb. 20, 27, and March 6, 2025, at 5:30 pm.
The program will last one hour long each Thursday evening and different topics will be covered at each class, so participants need to attend all three classes offered. The program is FREE of charge and the class size is limited to 12 people.
To attend the classes, please call 337-898-4335 or email Mandy at marmentor@agcenter.lsu.edu with your name, email, and phone number to reserve your spot. All participants will receive a folder of information presented and more! The deadline to register for the class is Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025. If we fill all 12 spots, a waiting list will be started.

Jeanne Hollier deValcourt

August 21, 1938 — February 7, 2025

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, honoring the life of Jeanne Hollier deValcourt, 86, who passed away on February 7, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Father Nicholas Dupre’ will officiate the services. A burial will follow at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. The readers will be Jennifer Marinari Calvert and Adrienne Marinari. Gift bearers will be Nicole deValcourt Pearce, Britnye deValcourt, and Alaine deValcourt Ford. Pallbearers will be Brett Marinari, Joey Marinari, Johnny deValcourt, Ramzy deValcourt, Kyle Choate, and Robbie Pearce.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville on Friday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, visitation will continue at 8 a.m. until 8:45 a.m., when we depart for church.
As a devoted Catholic, Jeanne embodied a vibrant compassion of faith and shared her light with all of those around her. She had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing, and was an enthusiastic tennis player. She found immense joy in the tranquility of her houseboat, Lady of the Lake, which she considered her favorite place in the world.
Jeanne was a skilled registered nurse for 37 years, dedicating her career to caring for others and making a meaningful impact on many lives. Many of her remarkable community imprints included her 40 years as a dedicated Chivale for the Annual Giant Omelette Celebration, served as chairwoman for the Abbeville Symphony, and was involved in several charitable organizations.
Jeanne is survived by her family, who she treasured above all else. Her legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her warm heart and the joy she brought into the lives of many.
She is survived by her son, Kevin deValcourt; daughter, Stephanie deValcourt Vincent; brother, John "Butch" Hollier; two sisters, Roberta Hollier and Pat Cascio; eleven grandchildren, Brett Marinari, Jennifer Marinari Calvert, Adrienne Marinari, Joey Marinari, Nicole deValcourt Pearce, Britnye deValcourt, Johnny deValcourt, Courtney deValcourt Roberts, Alaine deValcourt Ford, Ramzy deValcourt, Kyle Choate; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Hollier; mother, Marie Hebert; husband, Dr. John DeValcourt; two sons, John deValcourt and Michael deValcourt; and brother, Chris Hollier.

Anna L. Norman

MAURICE, La. — Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Anna L. Norman, 89, who died February 9, 2025, at Eastridge Nursing Home in Abbeville, LA.
Services will be conducted by Joseph Sai Tran, SVD.
Entombment will be in St Alphonsus Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, David Michael (Linda) Norman Sr of Maurice, LA, Richard (Emily) Norman of Opelousas, LA, Craig (Kerry) Norman of Lafayette, LA; two daughters, Pamela (Stephen) Raggette of Rosenburg, TX and Sharon (Richard) Comeaux of Lafayette, LA; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Olita Narcisse of La Marque TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Norman; one daughter, Joanna Duhon; her parents, Eldridge and Emma Catalon; father-in-law, Edwin Norman Sr,; mother-in-law, Olita Norman; maternal grandparents, Eraste and Mary Mouton; paternal grandparents, Doris and Anastacia Catalon; three brothers, Paul Catalon, Emanuel Catalon,, and Larry Catalon; one sister, Joanna Catalon; five brothers-in-law, Edwin Norman Jr, Roosevelt Norman, Kerbet Norman, Clarence Norman, Sharbet Norman; ten sisters-in-law, Doris Catalon, Ozita Catalon, Jerry Catalon, Velma Arceneaux, Rose Roy, Dorothy Norman, Wilda Trahan, Hilda Perry, Florence Bushnell, and Calvina Welch.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 8 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m.

Shane J. Migues

February 4, 1970 - February 9, 2025

ERATH – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Shane J. Migues, age 55, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr Clinton Sensat as Celebrant. The burial will be at LeBlanc Cemetery following the Funeral Mass.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.  A Rosary will be prayed in the church at 9 a.m. prior to the funeral mass.
Shane Joseph Migues, 55, a cherished resident of Erath, Louisiana, passed away on February 9, 2025, at Abbeville General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 4, 1970, he was a 1988 graduate of Delcambre High School and dedicated 28 years to the communications field, where his expertise and knowledge were highly respected.
A family man at heart, Shane found joy in fishing, playing poker, cooking, and cheering on LSU football. His warmth, generosity, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Shane is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Allison Landry Migues; his sons, Tristan Migues and wife Patience Freeman Migues, and Cooper Migues; his father, Keith Migues; and his brother, Jason Migues.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nora Menard Migues; his maternal grandparents, Eustis Menard and Mae Dore Menard; and his paternal grandparents, Otis Migues, Mildred Falgout, and Willis Falgout.
Honored as Pallbearers are Jason, Migues, Brandon Landry, Joe Broussard, Dylon Hoffpauir, Zachary Broussard, and Mark Harrington.
Honorary Pallbearers are Patrick Granger, Evertte Thibodeaux, and Scott Eckholdt.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services and honor his memory.
