Thibodeaux’s Town & Country is supporting a dog walking program with Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control.
It’s the idea VPRAC, with the approval of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury, to establish a dog walking program. The facility is introducing this program in order to get the dogs more human companionship and exercise. Interaction between people and pets has many mutual benefits.
Thibodeaux’s has set up a donation account to help with many needs in the past with the animal control unit during Hurricanes and in times of great need. This new program is set up to supply two specific dog collars and with every $5 donation to the VPRAC account during the months of May and June.
The $5 donations will cover the expense of every two collars and Thibodeaux’s will give a matching donation of an additional two collars to aid the program.
Specific collars have been selected and the facility would greatly appreciate the public’s support. At this time, they ask that you bring a walking leash until they have a supply of collars to match the quantity of rescue dogs.
Donations can be made in person to the Vermilion Rabies control account at Thibodeaux’s Town & Country at 1124 North Lafitte Road in Abbeville or mailed to Thibodeaux’s VPRAC COLLARS at P.O Box 27 in Abbeville, 70511.

The dog walking program is set to begin on Tuesday, May 15th and every Tuesday and Thursday thereafter from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Volunteers are urged to call and/or leave a voice message to discuss further details with Ms. Garrot.

COW ISLAND — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Anne Catholic Church honoring the life of James “Teanny Man” Hebert, 82, who passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Harrington Cemetery with Reverend Matthew Barzare officiating the services.
He is survived by his two sons, James B. Hebert and his wife, Charlsie of Cow Island and Roylee G. Hebert and his wife, Angela Mayeux Hebert of Sunset; two daughters, Lorna Bourque of Kaplan and Tawana and her husband, Pete Vaughan of Kaplan; one sister, Lina Ruth Miller of Ragley; one brother, Mickey Hebert of Lake Charles; one brother-in-law, Dale Stelly of Cow Island; 9 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florine S. Hebert; one grandson, Brock Vaughan; one brother, John “Bootsie” Hebert; and his parents, Roy Hebert and the former Beulah Broussard.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, Carleen Grogan, and Priscilla Broussard for their special care.

ABBEVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial for Carroll J. Lacour, 64, will be held Monday April 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Manny Fernandez pastor of St. James officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday April 29, 2018 from10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM, and will continue Monday April 30 from 8:00 AM until time of services.
A native and residence of Abbeville, Carroll was a 1972 graduate of New Iberia Sr. High and a graduate of the Nashville Auto Diesel College. Carroll enjoyed working cattle gardening, and riding his Harley, he loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Gina Lacour; son Shawn Lacour; stepdaughter Stacy Hebert, Denise Lalonde , and Angel Stelly; his brother Donald and his wife Dewana Lacour Sr.; eleven grandchildren Shay , Morgan Lacour, Hunter , Heather , and Hayden Hebert, Keith Garber, Vince Campbell, Chesey Lalonde, P.J. Redd, Saren , and Kennedi Stelly ,and eight great grandchildren; and his special pet Peanut.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents Hebron and Laudry Duhon Lacour.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the family and friends.

A union man through and through,Tim Del Cambre has passed away. He will be greatly missed.
The President of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3634, representing MTA Supervisors for the County of Los Angeles, Brother Del Cambre left an indelible mark. He led perhaps the most successful contract campaign ever in his local union, culminating in a 21% raise over five years for his members in July 2017. That contract won 99 percent ratification in a sign of the appreciation he earned from rank and file members.
Services to honor Del Cambre’s life were held Friday, April 27 at Friendship Baptist Church in Pasadena, California.
Born in Los Angeles, he loved to golf and relished time with his family. He was a man of deep faith. His father was Timothy Del Cambre, Mother Zenobia Harris- Del Cambre and Sister Marian Jean Shivers.
His wife, Darcy Del Cambre, is also an elected officer of Local 3634. His extended family came from small towns including Delcambre, Louisiana, his family's namesake, Pine Bluff Arkansas, and elsewhere. She recalled his mother as a hard-working woman who raised the kids while his father traveled the world working on merchant ships.
Tim and Darcy met 32 years ago, when Tim was a bus driver for what was then known as RTD, and continued to be employed by the Metropolitan Transit Authority over a 43 year career. Throughout, he was active in his union, including as the elected Chairman of Local 1565 and as a contract negotiator for MTA Operators in 2006, during which time a milestone agreement was reached. A plaque was erected on the Plaza Level of Metro Headquarters, dedicated to all involved in those negotiations. When Tim was promoted at his job in 2012, he became an AFSCME Local 3634 member. Three years later, Tim was elected President.
Besides Darcy, President Tim Del Cambre leaves behind daughter, Kimberly Prepetit, son Damon Del Cambre, sister Jean Shivers, and six grandchildren.

ABBEVILLE — Funeral services will be held at 1 :00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Johnny Jewell Sirmon, 65, who was born in Vermilion Parish, November 26, 1952 to Revis Green Sirmon and Lorraine Breaux Sirmon. He passed away at home on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Deacon Madge McLain officiating the services. Jim Doyle will deliver the eulogy.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Stokes, Dannon Stokes, Ryan Stokes, Jonathan Stokes, David Brown, and Jansen Stokes. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Morein, Reynald Meaux, Brian Bourque, and Bobby Russo.
Mr. Sirmon is survived by his sister, Rebecca Stokes-Joy and her husband John Joy; two nephews, Dannon Stokes and wife Coleen, and Patrick Stokes and wife Virginia; great nephews and nieces, Ryan Stokes, Courtney Stokes, Jonathan Stokes, Anne-Marie Stokes, Leigh Stokes, Nathan Stokes; and great-great nephews, Jansen Stokes, Gabe Brown and Jax Brown and Alexander Stokes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Revis Sirmon; mother, Lorraine Breaux Sirmon; and his partner, Nathan Thibodeaux.

ERATH — A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Larry Joseph Vidallia, 67, will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 3:30p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Andre Metrejean officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum. Military graveside honors will be performed by members of Derouen-Moss American Legion Post 279.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home in Erath on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 9 a.m. until time of service, with a rosary at 1 p.m.
A native of Erath, Mr. Vidallia died peacefully in his sleep at 2:10a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Abbeville, LA. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath, LA. He served our country in the United States Army from 1969-1972 while specializing as a medic. He worked at Texaco Henry Gas Plant for over 20 years, and in his later years became a bus driver for Vermilion Parish School Board. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also adored spending time with his beloved wife, gardening and camping. But mostly, he loved being Poppie to his 4 grandchildren, who he loved dearly and by whom he will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Patsy Baudoin Vidallia; his daughter, Brandie Vidallia of Erath; his son, Seth Vidallia and wife Michelle of Erath; two nieces, Stacey Vidallia Mire and Kimmy Vidallia; four grandchildren, Gage Laviolette, Conner Vidallia, Kaidyn Jones and Kylee Vidallia; one great-niece, Holley Mire Saunier and her daughter Catherine Grace Saunier of Abbeville; one great-nephew, Zachary Mire of Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Debra Baudoin; and a brother-in-law, Danny Baudoin, both of Erath.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Vidallia and Emma Loignon Vidallia; his brother, Ronald Joseph Vidallia; his maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
Serving during the mass will be Stacey Vidallia Mire and Debra Baudoin as gift bearers. Holley Mire Saunier and Christen Landry Primeaux will serve as readers. Timmy Landry will serve as Eucharistic Minister.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zachary Mire, Tommy Domingue, Timmy Landry, Johnny Bertrand, Kevin Abbott and Derek Hidalgo. Honorary pallbearers are Gage Laviolette, Conner Vidallia, Kaidyn Jones and Danny Baudoin.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ronald Lahasky, the family's physician and a dear friend, for his continued support and guidance during these last years of Larry's life.

Erath Mayor John Earl LeBlanc is informing the people of Erath that the town will be without power Saturday morning from 7 a.m. until noon.
Mayor LeBlanc said the town is upgrading its substation and the electricity must be turned off.

Natalie LeJeune of Lafayette was the 2017 recipient of a $1000 scholarship awarded by Christian’s Legacy Fund.
LAFAYETTE – Christian’s Legacy, a fund of Community Foundation of Acadiana, is accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors and college students.
Christian's Legacy scholarship benefits a student enrolled in and currently attending a Louisiana school whose immediate family member was an organ donor. This scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled college students who are in pursuit of a degree, in any field of study, from any two or four-year college or university in Louisiana. An electronic scholarship application can be found at www.cfacadiana.org/christianslegacy.com.
This scholarship is a one-time payment of $1,000. The application deadline is June 25, 2018.
Applicants must upload a one page personal essay describing the experiences and/or attributes that uniquely qualify you to receive this scholarship award.
Students must obtain and upload to this application, the following documents:
· High School Students (only) - high school transcript AND letter of acceptance to the college or university you will be attending
· College Students (only) - most recent transcript of college or university you are attending
· Applicants must have the organ donor's legal next of kin contact Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) at familyservices@lopa.org, prior to the June 25 application deadline, to give LOPA permission to verify with Christian's Legacy Scholarship Selection Committe that their loved one was an organ donor. This verification will only be used for the purpose of vetting the applicant's scholarship eligibility. This information is NOT required to complete the on-line application.
· The scholarship recipient will be announced in August.
Natalie LeJeune of Lafayette was the 2017 recipient of a $1000 scholarship awarded by Christian’s Legacy Fund. LeJeune is a marketing major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL).
“We are proud to be able to assist a very deserving student. The mission of Christian’s Legacy fund is to assist donor families. We hope to be able to continue offering this scholarship for many years to come,” said Jennifer and Hans Nelson, founders of Christian’s Legacy.
Christian’s Legacy Fund was established after the tragic death of Christian Nelson who died in 2013. Christian’s family decided to donate his organs which saved numerous lives. Since then, his parents Jennifer and Hans Nelson have actively educated the community about the importance of organ donation.
