Donald and Glena Gaspard of Gueydan and Carley and Bernetta Daniels of Maurice are announcing the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jenna, to James Godwin.
The wedding ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Le Barn Rouge in Lafayette.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Gueydan High School and graduated from LSUE with an Associate of Applied Science in Management in 2011.
She is also a graduate of SLCC with an Associate of Applied Science/Clinical Laboratory Technician in 2013 and is currently employed at Iberia Medical Center and Our Lady of Lourdes as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
The groom elect is James Godwin the son of Jim and Carlene Godwin of Abbeville.
The groom-elect is a 1999 graduate from Abbeville High School and was in the United States Army from 1999 to 2002. He currently works for Baker Hughs as an Electromechanical Technician.

Parents of the bride are Karen Guillot of Marksville and the late Glenn Gauthier of Hessmer, La. Her grandparents are Geraldine and the late Idal Guillot of Marksville, La.
Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Luke Broussard of Abbeville. Grandparents are Gerald and the late Ruby Nunez of Abbeville and Velma and the late Calvin Broussard of Abbeville.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Krazy Kajun Productions.
The mother of the bride was escorted by her boyfriend, Havard Dauzat. The mother of the groom was escoreded by her husband.
For her special day, the bride was escorted down the aisle by her mother.
Maid of honor was Adrienne Martin, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids included Mary Garon, friend of the bride; Blair Suire, sister of the groom and Ty Fawcett, sister of the groom. Junior bridesmaids included Trinity Dubroc, Amber Dubroc and Brooke Dubroc, nieces of the bride. Flower girls were Remi Fawcett and Reese Fawcett, nieces of the groom.
Ryan bievenu, friend of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Tommy Arabie, frind of the groom; Lance Suire, brother-in-law of the groom and Hunter Fawcett, brother- in-law of the groom.
Ring bearers were Bentley Suire and Christian Suire, nephews of the groom.
The ceremony was held immediately following the wedding at the Erath Community Center.
Upon their return from a wedding trip to Pensacola, Florida, the couple will reside in Abbeville, La.
The 8-9 Abbeville Wildcats snatched the lead late in the game in an 11-10 victory over Kaplan on Tuesday.
Abbeville was behind 7-1 in the sixth inning.
The game was tied at ten with Abbeville batting in the top of the ninth when Kyle Choate singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Josiah Chambers for the win.
Hunter Duhon led Abbeville to victory by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. Duhon drove in runs on a grand slam in the sixth inning.
After Abbeville scored one run in the top of the fourth inning, Kaplan answered with one of their own.
Abbeville scored when Josiah Chambers singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Kaplan then answered when Brayden Bass hit a solo homer.
Abbeville Wildcats put up nine runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Chambers, Hogan Landry, Jakarri Grogan, and Channing Spears, a walk by Choate, and a home run by Duhon.
Kevin Linton pitched for Abbevile. He allowed nine hits and 10 runs over eight innings, striking out eight.
Abbeville scattered 17 hits in the game. Chambers, Duhon, Grogan, Spears, Garrett Hebert, and Choate each managed hits for Abbeville.
Grogan, Duhon, and Chambers each managed three hits to lead Abbeville.
Hitters for Kaplan were Lane Marceaux, Noah Gaspard, Brayden Bass, Kolby Bernard, Nathan Sistrunk and Zack Stelly.
Drew Winch and Bernard combined to throw nine innings for KHS.

ERATH - The Kaplan Lady Pirates managed to hold off a late charge by the Erath Lady Bobcats on Tuesday.
Kaplan won the district game 4-3.
Erath knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the third inning. Erath’s Carrington Neveaux doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
North Vermilion pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Kylie Naomi doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and Abigail Lopez singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Naomi had a great day at the plate. She went 3-for-3 and knocked in three runs. She hit a single, a double and a home run.
Pitcher Jodi Broussard got the start for North Vermilion. She surrendered two runs on four hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one.
Pitcher Lexie Gisclair took the loss for Erath. She allowed 13 hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out four.
Kaplan finished with 13 hits.
With two hits each were Gabby Dupre, Hannah Menard and Holly Necaise. Abigail Lopez had a RBI double.
Erath tallied nine hits on the day.
Theriot and Gisclair had two hits to lead Erath.

The Kaplan Lady Pirates defeated Berwick 8-1 on Tuesday thanks to a timely six runs in a big fourth inning.
Erin Lotief, Dawn Bruton, Jayden Baudoin, and Lexi Broussard each had RBIs in the big inning.
Kaplan opened up scoring in the first inning. Kaplan scored one run when Bruton singled.
Kaplan scored six runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Pirates’ offense in the inning came from singles by Lotief, Baudoin, and Broussard and a walk by Bruton.
Pitcher Carina Chargois got the win for Kaplan. She surrendered one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out 11.
Kaplan scattered nine hits in the game. Jayden Baudoin went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs.
Kailey Hebert had two hits for Kaplan.
Matt Domingues pitched four hitless innings for Erath.
NV's Hayden Durke was clocked throwing 90 miles per hour against Erath.
It turned out to be a pitching war between two strong arms, which explains a low 2-1 game in favor of Erath.
North Vermilion’s Hayden Durke, who is considered to be one of the state’s best sophomore pitchers and is leaning towards signing with UL’s baseball program, threw 90 miles per hour twice and was consistent throwing 86 to 89 miles per hour against Erath.
Erath’s Matt Domingues is a junior right-hander who throws it in the low 80s and already has thrown a no-hitter this season.
The two right arms combined two strike 17 batters. Domingues, however, won that battle when he struck out nine.
He had a no-hitter going through four innings. It was not until the top of the fifth inning that Domingues gave up two hits. He had a no-hitter in place through four innings.
“I think Matt threw well,” said EHS head coach Jeremy Picard. “He competed well and gave us a chance to win the game.”
Durke fanned eight and gave up four hits.
North Vermilion head coach Jeremy Trahan added, “Both pitchers did very well.”
Trahan said his batters kept chasing Domingues’ high fast ball.
In the first inning, Chandler LeBlanc scored Erath’s first run.
The game was tied at one with Erath batting in the bottom of the fifth when a sacrifice bunt by Mason Granger scored one run for Erath when Domingue flied out.
Eli Dubois and Tyler Dubois had North Vermilion’s hits.
Hitters for Erath were LeBlanc, JT Langlinais, Parker Bourque and Turker Bourque.
The Bobcats would split with North Vermilion this season. The two teams played Saturday, and Erath was blown out 13-3.
Picard was happy to see his team rebound from Saturday’s loss.
“After the way we played on Saturday, it was a huge win,” he said. “I was proud of how our kids responded after the loss.”

ABBEVILLE—Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Michael Scott Mears, 49, who died Friday, March 23, 2018 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Esther Community Cemetery with Pastor, Rev. Dr. Mollie McGee officiating the services.
MSgt. Michael S. Mears was born 19 July 1968 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He graduated high school in 1986 and worked as a general contractor before entering the Air Force as an Air Transportation Specialist in May 1991. Msgt. Mears was in the NCOIC of the 818th Global Mobility Squadron’s Aerial Port Flight. He directly supervised 56 Aerial Porters and manged a deployable Air Mobility Support mission with taskings that span the globe. He was assigned two tours in Incirlik AB, Turkey then two tours in Aviano AB, Italy.
He is survived by his son, Jeremy Kaan Mears; mother, Martha Whaley Kuehling; father, Alvin Ronald Mears; brother, Matlock Robert Kuehling; two aunts, Patricia Whaley Branch and Dorthy Whaley; and uncle, Robert Whaley.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Harold J. Kuehling; uncle, John Henry Whaley Jr.; maternal grandparents, John H. Whaley and the former Opal G. Yarbrough.

Eldes is survived by his sister, Velma Williams of Jeanerette; nieces, Diana Risher of Covington and Brenda Graham of Ripon, WI; great niece, Amy McCance; and godchild, Elmae Knighton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Vice Bourque; parents, Etienne Bourque and the former Marie Broussard; infant son, Larry Bourque; and a brother Jean D. Bourque.

A mock car crash took place Friday behind Vermilion Catholic.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, every 90 seconds someone is injured in a drunk driving crash.
Vermilion Catholic High School students participated in a mock crash to educate their fellow students about the dangers of driving drunk.
Staging such a crime could be difficult, but with the help of Acadian Ambulance, Abbeville Fire Department, Abbeville Police, and several other departments, made it much easier to spread the grisly visual of the effects of driving drunk. University Medical Center of New Orleans and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission were instrumental in bringing the program to VC.
A mock crash is when educators around the country are intent on making these statistics real for teens. And in this day in age, it’s becoming more and more frequent. Friends are losing friends, dads are losing sons, moms are losing daughters, and the list goes on.
According to MADD, just over half of the children killed in drunk driving crashes were in the car with the drunk driver, but the other 46 percent of victims were in the car who got hit. During the mock crash, police officers will give chilling accounts of what it is like to tell a family that one of their loved ones has died as a result of a drunk driving crash.
“I think it is necessary because I feel like the kids always feel as if they’re invincible,” VC teacher Katie Landry said. “It gives them a reason to look and realize it could very well be any of them. Its very difficult to watch, but I feel like it needs to be seen.
“If this could save just one single life, then it was all worth it.”
The nurses used fake blood to show how gruesome it could be. JR Bazar, a student, painted red while laying on the hood of the SUV from being partially ejected from not wearing a seatbelt, was the student whose life was ‘taken’ in this mock crash. The driver, Monique Domingue, frantically searching for her phone, and shaking the previously mentioned victim to get him to open his eyes, played the drunk driver.
In another vehicle, a set of friends were hit by this impaired driver, who crossed the center line. Jean Paul LeMaire, the sober driver had minor scrapes and bruises, but his passenger, Camille Harrington, was injured. Both of her legs pinned under the dashboard with no way to get out.
The students in the audience were in shock, some with tears in their eyes. One student saying, “I didn’t think it would look and seem so real.”
Bazar, the only fatality in this crash, explained why he wanted to be a part of the mock crash.
“Thinking about doing it made me realize I needed to do it,” Bazar said. “This could be real, this could be me and my friends, people that I know. It tore my mom up to watch my lifeless body on the hood of that car, and I guess reality set in that it could happen, that why she broke down when the officer told her I had died. It wasn’t her acting, it was real.
“My dad died a couple of years ago and I think it hurt her because it could be me she loses, too.”
