LSU Wants Abbeville's Jacolby Campbell

Tigers offer Wildcat junior a scholarship

If you catch an Abbeville Wildcats football game in the next two years, you might be watching a future LSU Tiger wide receiver.
Football websites report that Campbell, a junior wide receiver for the Wildcats, has been offered a scholarship to play for Lane Griffin’s Tigers in two years.
Campbell, who is a 4-star recruit, recently went to a camp at LSU, and he got the offer after it ended.
Campbell, 6-1, 177 pounds, hasn’t committed to LSU, but the Tigers are now one of several major schools offering him a scholarship, even though he’s only a junior. He also has offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tulane, TCU, and Florida State.
According to 247 Sports, Campbell is ranked as the third-best wide receiver in Louisiana’s Class of 2028.
“The offer means everything. I appreciate coach (Lane) Kiffin and (wide receivers) coach George McDonald for believing in me enough to, like you said, pull the trigger and offer me a scholarship,” Campbell was quoted from the Louisiana vs. All’Yall website.
Last year, as a sophomore, Campbell had a strong season for the Wildcats. He played on defense and caught 55 passes for 763 yards and six touchdowns. With the 2026 season coming up, new head coach Brent Indest is expected to make Campbell a key player.
“It would be a great opportunity to come here to get better and work with some good coaches who have a good resume, who have a good background,” said Campbell in an interview with the Louisiana vs. All’Yall website.
The last time LSU offered a Wildcat a football scholarship was when Indest was Abbeville’s head coach. In the early 2000s, LSU gave scholarships offers to former AHS linebacker Jason Mitchell and his brother, defensive end Brandon Mitchell.
Both brothers chose other schools. Brandon played four years at Texas A&M, and Jason spent four years at Tennessee.
Indest is pleased to hear about the LSU offer and looks forward to helping Campbell make the right choice.
“I am very proud of Jacolby and the fact that LSU and so many other power five schools have offered him a scholarship opportunity,” said Indest. “He is a very versatile athlete, and I look forward to coaching hin the next two years as well as helping him and his mom navigate the recruiting process.”
