Patriots beat Catholic-New Iberia after taking lead in 2nd

North Vermilion claims 13-6 non-district win

MAURICE — The North Vermilion Patriots got off to a strong start in beating Catholic High of New Iberia 13-6 in a non-district baseball game on Tuesday.
The Patriots scored on a single by Brandt Fontenot in the first inning, a single by Braxton Savant in the first inning, a single by Ian Erbe in the second inning, and a single by Tyson Leblanc in the second inning.
CHS scored four runs in the first inning, driven by William Minvielle’s single, an error on a ball put in play by Lane Fenske and a double by Landon Courville.
The Patriots pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Erbe singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Leblanc singled on a 3-0 count, scoring one run.
North Vermilion scored four runs in the sixth inning. Savant, Cole Veronie and Erbe each had RBIs in the big inning.
Isaac Russell led the Patriots to victory on the hill. The righty lasted six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out three and walking one.
Lane Davis led things off on the mound for Catholic High. The righty allowed nine hits and nine runs over three innings, striking out one. Luke Landry and Bennett Thomas entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Seth Aboudd started the game for the Patriots. The right-hander allowed five hits and four runs over one inning, striking out two and walking zero
The Patriots blasted 14 hits in the game. Erbe, Savant, Fontenot, Evan Deshotels and Leblanc each managed multiple hits for the Patriots. Leblanc, Deshotels, Fontenot, Savant, and Erbe each managed two hits to lead the Patriots.
The Panthers racked up 10 hits. Owen Morris, John David Hidalgo, Courville, and Minvielle all managed multiple hits.
