Walks, errors lead to 8-4 Erath loss to LCA

ERATH — The Erath High Bobcats had more than twice as many hits as Lafayette Christian in their non-district baseball game on Tuesday at Ross Granger Field, but eight walks and four errors were too much for the Bobcats to overcome in an 8-4 loss to the Knights.
LCA took advantage of two walks and an error that plated two runs in the top of the second inning, and a double by Grant Porche brought in two more runs later in the inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Bobcats cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout by Jadon Soirez and an RBI single to center by Payton Pickens.
Lafayette Christian extended its lead to 7-2 in the top of the third inning, however, scoring all three runs with two outs. A hit batter, a passed ball and five straight walks contributed to the scoring outburst.
Dominic Frederick scored on a passed ball for Erath in the bottom of the third to cut the LCA (3-6) lead to 7-3, but an error in the top of the fourth allowed LCA to score another two-out run for an 8-3 lead.
Thomas Collins doubled in the bottom of the fourth to bring home Christen Migues, but neither team came close to scoring again as each team only got one runner on base over the final three innings, both reaching on errors.
Erath (3-6) outhit LCA 9-4 in the game. Migues and Lynkon Romero each went 2-for-4 for the Bobcats and each scored a run. Pickens and Collins each had a hit and an RBI and Soirez also drove in a run.
Trevor Huval and Ethan Sanfilippo also had hits for the Bobcats.
Porche went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Knights. Cooper Martin also doubled and scored a run, Wyatt Menard singled and scored twice and Caiden Bentley had a hit and a run.
Aiden Mouton started on the mound for the Bobcats, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing seven runs on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks. Four of the runs he gave up were unearned. Hudson Guidry pitched the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit with three walks and two strikeouts.
Ashton Celestine pitched five innings for the Knights to get the win, allowing nine hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Martin gave up no hits and struck out one batter in two innings in relief.
