The Abbeville Wildcats have won two straight games after scoring a combined 46 runs.
Last week, the Wildcats (2-3) beat Opelousas 26-25 and Glenco Charter, 20-6.
Abbeville’s Greg Meaux, Nathan Daniels, and Roland Levine III combined for five of the team’s 10 hits in the victory against Glenco. They scored five runs and drove in six.

Late rally lifts VC over St. Ed Blue Jays

EUNICE  – The Vermilion Catholic Eagles clawed their way to a hard-fought 7-6 victory over the St. Edmund Blue Jays on Saturday, using timely hitting and a strong bullpen to seal the win.
The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board. In the top of the first, Dominic Gautreaux and Jacob Dubois were hit by pitches before Jackson Trahan executed a sacrifice bunt to move them into scoring position. Brice Lege then ripped a single to left, bringing in Gautreaux and Dubois for an early 2-0 Eagles lead.

Abbeville's ‘D’ big reason for its success

The Abbeville Wildcats advanced to the second round of the Division IV Non-Select Playoffs, where they faced a tough No. 1 Wossman team on Monday.
The Wildcats  (20-13) were the No. 16 seeded team, while Wossman is the top seed in the playoffs. The Meridional went to press Monday before the game ended. Wossman has been to the state finals five years in a row. 
Wossman won the Division II Non-Select state title last year as the No. 2 seed.

North Vermilion Lady Patriots Getting Defensive

The late University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summit once said, “Offense sells tickets. Defense wins games.” This year’s North Vermilion’s Lady Patriot basketball team would make Summit proud. 
The NV defense is causing an average of 32 turnovers a game for a team total of 801 on the year. NV has scored 675 total points off those turnovers for a 27-point-a-game average. The Lady Patriots are scoring half of their points thanks to turnovers. 
It gets better.
The Lady Patriots have 499 steals in 25 games, and six players have 50 steals or more.

Vermilion Catholic comes from behind to beat CHS

On Thursday, the Vermilion Catholic baseball team began the season with a comeback victory against the Catholic High Panthers.
The Eagles (1-0) were down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
They scored three runs to tie the game 3-3 and then scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 4-3.
In the seventh inning, the Eagles tied it on a bases-loaded single by Jacob Dubois. He knocked in Jackson Trahan.
VC scored its second run in the same inning on an RBI walk by Will Simon, making it 3-2.
