Vermilion Parsih ninth in graduation rate

The Louisiana Department of Education released graduation rates for the 2015-16 school year and Vermilion Parish continues to rank among the best.
The school district had a 90.6 graduation rate, good for ninth in the state. Lincoln Parish, which ranked one spot ahead of Vermilion, had a 90.7 graduation rate.
The state average is 77 percent.
Vermilion did drop 2.9 percentage points from its 2014-15 rate.
The district here is tops in the Acadiana area. Acadia Parish ranks 21, with an 86.3 rate. With a grad rate of 81.6, St. Martin Parish ranks 35th. Iberia Parish (75.5 grad rate) and Lafayette Parish (75 grade rate), ranked 54th and 55th, respectively. Evangeline Parish is 66th in the state with a 68.5 graduation rate. St. Landry Parish, with a 66.6 graduation rate, is 69th in the state.
Nearly 39,000 students in the state, about 77 percent of the graduation cohort, graduated with a diploma on time in 2016. Graduation has steadily risen over the past five years, with this year’s class maintaining record gains made by the class of 2015. More than 3,500 more students graduated in 2016 than did in 2012. In its ESSA plan, Louisiana set a goal of raising its high school graduation rate to 90 percent by 2025.
Nearly 2,500 more graduates in the Class of 2016 were eligible for TOPS than in the class of 2012, also sustaining record gains made by the Class of 2015.
