Telly Briggs booked by Abbeville Police on three counts of simple kidnapping

Telly Briggs has been booked after he allegedly kidnapped a woman and two children.
On March 24, at approximately 6:30 p.m., patrol officers with the Abbeville Police Department responded to a call of a possible disturbance at Chapel Down Apartments on West Port Street.
The complainant stated that her daughter called her and told her that her boyfriend had beat her up. The complainant stated to officers that she was also going to the apartment to check on her daughter.

Abbeville wins Cleanest City district title

The City of Abbeville now has its sights set on a Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. State Cleanest City Contest state title.
Abbeville competed in the LGCF District III Cleanest City Contest on Tuesday, March 19. The city brought home a win in that round.
District III Cleanest City Contest Chairmen Gwen Lanoux and Patsy Hebert stated that “Abbeville excelled in the District III Contest. The judges were impressed with the overall cleanliness of the city and the extent of civic pride and community involvement.”

Abbeville Councilmen discuss sales tax proposal; Special election called for May 4

Voters in the City of Abbeville have more than a month to gather information on the special election for a half-cent sales tax.
On May 4, voters in Abbeville will go to the polls to decide on a half-cent sales tax, a potential new revenue stream city officials say is necessary to help fund raises for city employees. The city council voted unanimously on March 7 to call the special election.
Councilman Francis Plaisance and Councilman Francis Touchet Jr. met with members of the Kiwanis Club of Abbeville last week to share details of the proposal.

Unrestrained Driver Killed in Acadia Parish Crash

ACADIA PARISH – At approximately 6:30 pm on March 24, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 91 near Jacob Road in Acadia Parish. The crash took the life of 37-year-old Cory Landreneau of Eunice.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Landreneau was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on LA Hwy 91. For unknown reasons, Landreneau failed to negotiate a curve. His vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left and overturned.

Abbeville man sentenced for lying on firearm application

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Gene Williams III, 22, of Abbeville, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Dee. D. Drell to 14 months in prison for lying on a firearms application.
Williams was also sentenced to three years of supervised release to follow imprisonment.
Williams lied on an ATF Form 4473 on February 26, 2018, in order to purchase a Taurus, Model 740, Slim .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol at a pawnshop in Abbeville.
