CROWLEY — Holly Boffy, recently re-elected to her third term as a member of the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education lauded the Acadia Parish education system when she addressed community leaders here Friday.
“Acadia Parish has a better understanding of BESE than any of the other nine parishes in my district,” she said during the morning Business Over Breakfast event at Rice Palace Restaurant.
She attributed that to the late Dr. John A. Bertrand, long-time superintendent of Acadia Parish Schools and member of the state board.

A special meeting has been called by School Board President Laura LeBeouf to discuss the employment status of Superintendent Jerome Puyau.
The meeting will be held Thursday in the Charles Campbell Annex Building. It gets underway at 6 p.m.
The agenda was finalized Tuesday morning, and there are three things on it, and all three deal with Puyau.
Two out of the three things call for the school board members to go into executive session to discuss the pending litigation in the matter of two lawsuits dealing with Puyau and the school board.

KAPLAN — Students and faculty at Rene Rost Middle School had to be evacuated Tuesday after authorities learned of a possible bomb threat at the school.
Members of the Kaplan Police Department and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office responded after receiving notification. A search found no credible evidence of a threat.
“Officers were deployed along with bomb searching K-9s,” Kaplan Chief of Police Joshua Hardy said. “The children were evacuated to a safe location. The school along with all out buildings were searched and cleared of any threats.”
