LAFAYETTE – LAGCOE is proud to announce the winners of the Future Energy Professionals (FEP) scholarship. Recognizing the importance of collegiate majors from disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), LAGCOE has created this scholarship in an effort to attract professional talent capable of maintaining a high level of technical proficiency within the oil & gas industry. The scholarships are awarded to goal-oriented students planning to enroll into a Louisiana College in pursuit of a STEM-centric Degree.
Four Acadiana-area high school students were selected as recipients of this award: Meaghan Thibodeaux, Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish; Michael LaCour, St. Thomas More Catholic High School; Parker Cormier, New Iberia Senior High School; and Brandon Mitchell, Pine Prairie High School.
The scholarship entitles each recipient up to $1,000 per semester while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the STEM fields at a four-year Louisiana university or college or up to $825 per semester while pursuing a technical degree or certificate at a two-year Louisiana community college or technical school. The winners were honored at a reception, hosted by LAGCOE and Community Foundation of Acadiana on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Lafayette Science Museum.
Meaghan is a recent graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish and will be attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. in the fall studying Biological Sciences. “Since a young age, I have excelled in my math and science subjects. The material always seemed to register and make sense in my mind, and because of this, I have always known that I would want to major in a field that contained both,” Thibodeaux said.
Michael is a recent graduate of St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, La. and will be attending University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, La. in the fall studying Chemical Engineering. “Before attending LAGCOE 2017, I had a very minimal understanding of the oil and gas industry. I did not know that so many companies could privde so many different services for the oil discovery, refining and distribution process. I want to make an impact on this industry by using my love of chemistry to help this growing industry,” LaCour said.
Parker is a recent graduate of New Iberia Senior High School in New Ibera, La. and will be attending L.E. Fletcher Technical Community College in Schriever, La. in the fall, studying Integrated Product Technologies. “I want to have a jump on those entering the oilfield, so I’m choosing to attend college in pursuit of an Associate’s Degree, which will help me to start in a better position and have the knowledge to be productive an asset to the company that I will work for,” Cormier said.
Brandon will begin his senior year at Pine Prairie High School in Ville Platte, La. and will be attending South Louisiana Community College in Lafayette, La. following his graduation in May 2019, entering into the Oil & Gas Production program. “I decided to pursue the production side of the oil and gas industry because I feel that I could be the most valuable in that area. After college, I see myself climbing the ladder in the oil industry, making contributions to the industry and providing a nice living for my family,” Mitchell said.
LAGCOE Future Energy Professionals Program is supported by the LAGCOE Education Fund, a Fund at Community Foundation of Acadiana. The program was established to encourage and support future industry professionals to pursue technical positions, which literally fuel our world. Included are projects, which work to support the middle, secondary, and higher education and STEM curriculum.  
LAGCOE is a nonprofit energy industry organization focused on educational programs and a technical exposition & conference. LAGCOE’s mission is to cultivate economic growth of the energy industry by facilitating domestic & global business development and fostering the energy workforce pipeline.

Pervis “Pee Wee” Meaux

ABBEVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Pervis “Pee Wee” Meaux, 93, will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Mary Magdelan Catholic Church with Fr. Glenn Meaux, Celebrants. Interment will follow at St. Mary Magdelan Cemetery.
Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Abbeville on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 6:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 8:00AM until the time of the service.
A native and resident of Abbeville, Mr. Meaux died at 9:50PM on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his residence. Pee Wee spent his life with the lifelong noble intention of being of service to his family, friends, neighbors, community, and country.  At a very early age he served as a seaman with the Merchant Marines, but as he attained the age of 18, he volunteered to serve his country in the US Army as a mechanic on one of the famed Higgins boats LCM (landing craft mechanical) in the south Pacific, where he lived, worked, and fought in unpleasant conditions during WWII in places such as Borneo and New Guinea. After his returned from the war, he married Rosalie Richard and they started Pee Wee’s Pest Control in Abbeville, LA. He was elected to serve the Vermillion Parish community as a Police Juror and was re-elected to serve several terms. He and his wife Rose were so proud of their son Fr. Glenn, who founded and today continues to serve the Catholic Mission in Haiti.  He loved and spent much time with his grandchildren. After he lost Rose, his wife of 53 years to cancer, he married Fee grew to know her family as his own. They were married 14 years before her death in April of 2018.
He was a quiet man, very small in stature but huge in heart.  He cared deeply about those he knew and did all he could to make their lives a little easier.   He will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on.
He is survived by his sister, Laura Meaux Carret; children the Reverend Glenn Marshall Meaux, and Ginger Meaux Mathy and her husband, Mike; his grandchildren Sam Mathy and Hannah Mathy;  stepchildren, Larry Miguez and his wife, Katrina; Marsha Langley and her husband, Leon; Kent Miguez and his wife, Lorene, Steve Miguez and his wife, Tamra and his step childrens families.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rosalie Richard Meaux, and his wife of 14 years, Ophelia “Fee” Miguez-Meaux; and his parents, Whitney and Lucille Mouton Meaux.
Serving as pallbearers will be Neil Carret, Sam Mathy, Sam Falcon, Danny Falcon, Randal Hebert, and Jay Nunez.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Harold Hebert, Gen. Bob LeBlanc, Don Anderson, and David Trahan.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pee Wee’s caregivers, Enola, Sarah, Betty, Wendy and Jade.

MILTON — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church honoring the life of Dorothy Louise Landry Collins, 91, who died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at her residence. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery with Rev. William Schambough officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Kyle Collins, Brandon Bodin, Michael Cason, Daniel Cason, Jonathon Bodin and Andre Landry. Honorary pallbearers include Todd Collins, Taylor Collins and Hunter Collins.
Dot was a resident of the Woodlawn community her entire life. A devout Catholic, she always had a rosary within arm’s reach and held her family and friends closest to her heart.
She was a hairdresser for years and helped her husband Tommy with their dairy farm.  Active in the community, she was a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society and LeBlanc Rosary Group, and she and Tommy were members of the Vermillion Boat Club, the Vermilion Parish Cattleman and Cattlewomen Association.
Frequent visitors who stopped in for a cup of coffee or a visit were the highlight of her day and she always looked forward to coffee and breakfast with her sisters on Fridays. She held the job of grandmother as one of her most important in life, never missing a Grandparent’s Day, First Communion, Confirmation, graduation or milestone event in their lives. Sunday lunches at her house were a time to laugh, enjoy each other’s company and make memories.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Todd Collins and his wife, Beth; three daughters, Claudette Cason and her husband Tommy, Donna Bodin and her husband Paul, and Myra Hebert and her husband Richard; daughter-in-law, Nina Landry; fourteen grandchildren, Kyle Collins and his wife Skye, Holly Comeaux, Blair Broussard and her husband Kyle, Brandon Bodin and his wife Kindra, Alison Freeman, Jonathon Bodin, Lauren Cason, Michael Cason, Daniel Cason and his wife Stephanie, Andre Landry and his wife Nicky, Megan Lalande and her husband Lucien, Macie Landry, Taylor Collins and Hunter Collins; fourteen great grandchildren; brother, Larry Landy; two sisters, Andrey Carroll and her husband Johnny, and Frances Landry; and sisters-in-law, Luby Landry and Wilma Landry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Collins; son, Keith Collins; parents, J.V. “Lulu” Landry, Sr. and the former Edia Prejean; sisters, Lula Guilbeau and Mary Lou Carver and her husband F.M. “Buttercup” Carver; brothers, J.V. “Umbe” Landry, Jr., Aston “Naunchie” Ray Landry and his wife Myrtis Landry, and Robert “Tully” H. Landry; and parents-in-law, Minos and Neola Collins.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Friday, June 8, 2018 from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM when the procession will depart for the church.
On behalf of the Collins family, they would like to express their gratitude to their mother’s caregivers, Louise Stelly, Brenda Broussard and Renee Pillette for their kindness, care and compassion given to their mother.
