Vermilion Catholic moves to No. 1 in power ratings
The Vermilion Catholic Eagles (7-1) leaped from No. 4 of last week to No. 1 this week in the latest Division IV power ratings.
The reason for the leap was because they played and beat Centerville, who had six wins, so the Eagles’ power rating went up.
Do not be surprised if VC falls to No. 2 or No. 3 next week because the Eagles are playing Covenant Christian, who only has two wins.
The Eagles overtook Opelousas Catholic (7-1) who dropped to No. 2. Ascension Catholic (8-0) is No. 3 and Southern Lab (4-3) is No. 4.
The top 16 make the Division IV playoffs.
In Class 3A, the Kaplan Pirates locked up a playoff spot with a win over Crowley last week. The Pirates are at No. 18 and are knocking on the door of playing home in the first round of the playoffs.
The top 16 play home in the first round. Kaplan needs to win one out of its last two games to possibly make it happen. Two wins should ice a home game.
The Erath Bobcats (3-4) are on the bubble of making it. Erath is at No. 30 and the top 32 make the playoffs. The Bobcats need to win one out of its last two games to secure a spot.
St. James (8-0) is the No. 1 team in Class 3A.
In Class 4A, North Vermilin (5-3) is at No. 21.
In Class A, the Gueydan Bears (4-4) have a power rating of No.14 and the top 12 play host to a first round game. The Bears will need to win one out of its last two games for a chance to host a playoff game.
