After being on the road for the past two years, the Beau Chene Gators returned to the “swamp” with lots of pre-game energy and an excited fan base. The celebration, however, didn’t last long as the North Vermilion Patriots used a dominating run game and a stifling defense to put the game away early and took the season opener for both teams, 47-14.
The win marked the first victory for the Patriots under new head coach Brett Blakey and put the Patriots at 1-0 to start the season.

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles had 356 yards of total offense to cruise to a 45-6 season-opening win against the Loreauville Tigers.
It was also new VC head coach Kevin Fouquier first win as a head coach. He has been coaching football since the late 1980s and never has been a head football coach on any level.
“It feels good,” said Fouquier about his first victory. “The kids played well. We still had a few mistakes that we have correct. Overall, we were physical. We ran the football and threw the football well.”

BALDWIN - The Abbeville Wildcats managed to hang on and beat the West St. Mary Wolves 39-30 in the season-opener for both teams on Thursday.
The Wildcats never trailed, but they also never had a comfortable lead because West St. Mary quarterback Taylon Druilhet kept his team in the game.
Druilhet threw for an impressive 283 yards en route to the loss.
Abbeville head coach Kevin Kern was happy with the win but knows his team can play better.

New coaches ready to lead Erath, North Vermilion

Tonight two new parish head coaches will begin their era in Vermilion Parish.
In Erath, Eric LeBlanc is a brand new coach for the Bobcats. He replaces former head coach David Comeaux, who is now an assistant coach at Comeaux High Schoool.
LeBlanc and the Bobcats travel to Youngsville to battle the pass-happy Ascension Episcopal. The two teams met last year, and Ascension won 46-14. They went on to post an 8-3 record, while Erath finished 1-9.
