North Vermilion sweeps Erath

The North Vermilion Patriots and Lady Patriots took care of Erath on Friday.
The win keeps both North Vermilion teams in the hunt for the district title and a playoff berth in the Class 3A playoffs.
In the girls game, the Lady Pirates had little trouple whipping Erath 58 -36 at NVHS.
The Lady Patriots blew the game open in the first half by scoring 36 points compared to Erath’s 20.
Kaylee Lopez provided the spark for NV with 20 points. She nailed four 3-pointers. They were all made in the first half.

Kaplan Pirates stun Abbeville in Wildcat gym

Beating the Abbeville Wildcats in their gym is always tough, especially for the Kaplan Pirates.
Despite the odds, the Pirates pulled off the victory, 43-40, over Abbeville on Friday.
“This was a big win for the kids becaue they worked so hard in practice,” said Kaplan head coach Cody Mire. “We have come so close, losing by one or two points to different teams this season.. Tonight, we pulled it off.”
It was not easy, however.

Vermilion Parish teams can’t afford to lose due to power points

Different parish basketball teams now have a lot riding on each game at around the half way point of the season.
One of those teams is the Delcambre Panthers (7-8). The Panthers are on the road tonight to play a tough West St. Mary basketball team in a district contest
At the half way point of the season, Delcambre is seeded No. 30 in the latest Class A power point rankings. The top 32 make the playoffs.
With that in mind, the Delcambre Panthers can not afford to lose many more games if they hope to make the playoffs.

‘Mo’ doing well at Bossier

BOSSIER - The best female basketball player to put on an Erath High School uniform is having success with her new team.
Monet “Mo” Bolden lit up the score board at Erath High for three years. Today, she is playing basketball at Bossier Parish Community College.
Bolden is a starter at the junior college and averaging 13 points, four rebounds and four assists a game over the last 13 games.
She is also the only freshman to start and has started in 11 out of 13 games this season.

For the third year in a row, the Kaplan Pirates have a Vermilion Parish MVP.
Two years ago the Pirates had Julius Johnson rush for 2,000 yards and earned the Offensive MVP in the parish.
Last year Johnson led the parish in tackles and was named the Defensive MVP in the parish.
Well, in 2017, the Kaplan Pirates swept the parish MVP awards.
Mac Thibeaux, who made the parish first team as a running back last year, was selected the Parish Offensive MVP this year.
