It has been a strange high school football regular season, and now it is about to be a peculiar playoffs.
On Sunday, the LHSAA announced the playoff pairings based on power points.
The parish has five teams that landed in the LHSAA playoffs.
It was a no brainer that VC, Kaplan, Abbeville, and Delcambre were getting in. But the big shocker was Erath squeaking in despite not playing a football game in two weeks.
LAFAYETTE – No. 24 Louisiana Football’s home finale against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Nov. 21, has been canceled due to COVID-19 positive tests and contract tracing within the program.
The Ragin’ Cajuns did not hold practice Tuesday, Nov. 17, and will attempt to resume normal operations on Saturday, Nov. 21.
A total of 33 student-athletes are in the program’s COVID-19 safety protocol, which is a combination of contact tracing, isolation, quarantine and recovering cases.
On Thursday morning, Erath High Head Football Coach Eric LeBlanc had to tell his football players something he dreaded telling them.
At 10:30 a.m., he and other coaches gathered with EHS players to tell them that their football season was over because of COVID-19.
“I never had a tougher or more emotional conversation with the team,” said LeBlanc. “It was the right decision for everyone involved, but I still can’t help feel terrible for our seniors.”
