Brittany Broussard was selected as the Erath High Teacher of the Year this year.

​On Nov. 17, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the Walmart parking lot in reference to shots being fired in the area.
The responding officers located a witness who advised them that they observed two subjects fighting in the parking lot, and a third subject exited the vehicle and fired two rounds from a handgun toward the ground near one of the subjects after they stopped fighting.
​Patrol officers, while still on the scene, were advised that people were at the Abbeville Police Department to report that the suspect had shot at them. Patrol officers were able to determine that Christian Green of Abbeville had fired the weapon. Officers were able to contact Green via telephone, and Green agreed to turn himself in to the Abbeville Police Department.
Green arrived at the Abbeville Police Department, where he was booked on the two counts of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm. The firearm that Green used in the incident was recovered and placed into evidence. Green was transported to the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center for holding.

LAFAYETTE – No. 24 Louisiana Football’s home finale against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Nov. 21, has been canceled due to COVID-19 positive tests and contract tracing within the program.
The Ragin’ Cajuns did not hold practice Tuesday, Nov. 17, and will attempt to resume normal operations on Saturday, Nov. 21.
A total of 33 student-athletes are in the program’s COVID-19 safety protocol, which is a combination of contact tracing, isolation, quarantine and recovering cases.
“We are disappointed we will be unable to play Central Arkansas on Saturday,” said Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard. “We knew this season was going to require a lot of patience and flexibility and disruptions were likely to occur. The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff is always the primary focus.”
Louisiana’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28, at ULM, with a 2 p.m. kickoff on ESPN3. Changes to the football schedule will be communicated by the Department of Athletics, if necessary.
“We appreciate our tremendous medical staff and athletic trainers working closely with our football program in order to best navigate this situation,” said head coach Billy Napier. “There has been an unfortunate uptick in coronavirus cases around the country, especially in football programs, and now more than ever, we must remain committed to being safe, following proper protocols and mitigating further spread of the virus.”
Season ticket holders will be given the opportunity to redeem single-game tickets to a home men’s or women’s basketball game of their choosing, based on availability. Requests will be allocated based on the number of football season tickets in the account.

ABBEVILLE — Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at St. Paul Cemetery honoring the life of Enite Trahan Weekly, 90, who died Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. She was laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeremy Meaux, Jimmie Lege, Carl Lege, Ricky Simon, Cody Menard, and Brandon Raco.
Enite is survived by her daughters, Linda Romero, and Katherine Simon and her husband, Ricky; son, Michael Weekly; grandchildren, Shannon Macullom, Jessica Meaux, Michelle Faul, Cralla Raco, Craig Romero, and Heath Romero; great grandchildren, Tyler Derouen, Loren Meaux, Emily Derouen, Alyssa Derouen, Hudson Faul, Cody Menard, Buddy Romero, Paige Cormier, Brandon Raco, and Chris Weekly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Presley J. Weekly; parents, Edmond Trahan and the former Editha Duhon; sisters, Eunice Leger, Mary Simon, and Lily Bordelon; and brothers, Dallas Trahan and Wallace Trahan.
