Free COVID-19 testing at Cajun Field will be extended through Sunday, Aug. 2

LAFAYETTE — A free COVID-19 mobile testing site at Cajun Field will remain in place through Sunday, Aug. 2.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Louisiana Department of Health have been operating the site since July 10. This is the second time that testing has been extended.
Free, drive-thru tests will continue to be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except on Friday, July 31. A food distribution effort will be held at the site that day.
No ID is needed for testing, but registration is required.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon’s Message On the Latest Governor’s Proclamation Regarding Covid-19 Mitigation Measures Including Mandatory Face Coverings

On Saturday July 11, 2020, Governor John Bel Edwards released Proclamation 89-20, which included additional Covid-19 mitigation measures including the closure of bars and crowd size limitations at indoor facilities. The proclamation also included the requirement for the wearing of facial covers (masks covering the mouth and nose) at any commercial establishment and government buildings open to the public whether indoor or outdoor where strict social distancing cannot be maintained.

VP Mike Pence urges schools reopening, pledges federal support for Louisiana

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana is better positioned to safely hold in-person classes in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic now than it was in March or April, Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday.
Though coronavirus infections again are rising statewide, not reopening schools is too risky for students to be considered, federal officials said.
“The people of Louisiana know how to slow the spread. They know how to flatten the curve,” Pence said. “We’re with you, and we’re going to be with you every step of the way.”

Governor says you have to wear a mask

The Governor’s Office has provided more detailed information on the mandatory mask mandate and closure of bars that was announced Saturday afternoon.
This past Saturday, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced a mandatory mask requirement for Louisiana and ordered bars in the state closed to on-premises consumption, as the state experiences increasing spread of COVID-19.

UL Lafayette announces fall semester calendar changes

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will begin its Fall 2020 semester on Monday, Aug. 17.
The earlier start date is one of several changes the University has made to its academic calendar as it prepares for the safe resumption of on-campus instruction and housing and residential life in the fall.
The last day of classes is Friday, Nov. 20.
Final exams will conclude on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Fall break, originally scheduled for Oct. 1-2, has been canceled.
Fall 2020 Commencement will be Tuesday, Dec. 8; details about the ceremony will be forthcoming.
