Over 300 participate in annual Relay for Life

Abbeville, LA – Ten teams and more than 300 people participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Vermilion Parish event on April 1, 2017 at Magdalen Square.
Relay For Life of Vermilion Parish event leadership team recently held their annual season wrap up meeting to celebrate and thank volunteers, participants and sponsors.

Beanies for St. Jude made a donation to St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis for the 17th year. Beanies for St. Jude was so excited and humbled to donate $15,000; $3,100 in Pathfinder wagons and over $2,000 to a St. Jude patient for 2017. A cargo van, mini van and three SUV’s were packed with goodie bags and toys to make the 7 1/2 hour journey to Memphis for all the patients and families of St. Jude. The group served a spaghetti dinner at Target House, a pizza and ice cream dinner at Ronald McDonald House and Tri-Delta House, along with many gifts for everyone. The highlight of the trip was the donation to the hospital and educational tour.

Vermilion TAG students take field trip to sea lab

On February 19-21, 2017, Vermilion Parish TAG students in grades 5-12 embarked on an adventure we will not soon forget.
Teachers Leah Trahan, Katie Primeaux, Karen McCain, and Betsy Hacket took their students on a field trip to Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
Students participated in informational classes and hands on activities that focused on coastal environments and the wildlife that live there.

Kaplan Toys for Tots helps 200 families/600 children

The American Legion Post 271 in Kaplan served over 200 families and 600 children with the Toys for Tots program this past Christmas.
With the poor economy and flooding, this was a particularly hard year for our area.
The program is sponsored by the Marine Corps out of Lafayette, LA. The Legion wishes to thank the Renee Rost Junior Beta Club and Chez Elles for their donations.

Krewe de Mystical Waters Bal Masque

On February 4, 2017 at 7:00 pm, The Wyndham Garden Inn Hotel in Lafayette, LA was the setting of Delcambre’s Krewe de Mystical Waters’ 18th annual Bal Masque. The night was one filled with fun, festivity and great entertainment as this year’s royalty presented the “Rags to Riches” show.
