Abbeville seeing drop in water pressure, asking citizens to conserve

Below is a message from the City of Abbeville released Wednesday afternoon regarding the drop in water pressure”
As pipes begin to thaw, we are seeing a drop in water pressure and the City of Abbeville water supply is now dangerously low.
Temperatures are above freezing, and we need all citizens to STOP running your faucets.
We also ask that you PLEASE check for busted pipes. If your pipe is busted, you need to cut off water until it is repaired. If you do not know where that is call City Hall at 337-893-8550 and we will send someone out to do it for you.

Southeast Waterworks District No. 2 sends alert regarding critical water levels

Below is an alert sent by the Southeast Waterworks District No. 2 in Vermilion Parish on Wednesday:
“Our tank reserves have reached a critical point. It is imperative that all faucets be turned off now. We are only hours away from possibly having to issue a Boil Advisory should our tanks empty out. We ask for and appreciate your assistance.”

Current plan will have public schools open on Thursday; Byler said conditions will continue to be monitored

Vermilion Parish Superintendent Tommy Byler said Wednesday morning that the current plan is for schools to reopen as scheduled on Thursday morning.
Byler said in a post on social media that school officials will continue to monitor weather conditions.
“Currently the plan is to return to school tomorrow as originally planned,” Byler said. “We are monitoring the weather and we are also doing surveys of our schools this morning.”
Byler said infrastructure at the schools will be checked.

Abbeville to implement curfew

To coincide with the rest of the parish, the city of Abbeville is instituting a citywide curfew from 6:00 p.m. tonight until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow due to the inclement weather. Please shelter in place whenever possible and stay off of the roadways. If there is an emergency, please contact emergency services. Emergency personnel are asking for the public's cooperation and understanding that it may take them longer to safely respond to emergency situations.
