The 2017 Erath 4th of July Celebration royalty were crowned last weekend during their annual pageant held at the Erath Community Building. Reigning for 2017 are (left to right): Jr. Miss 4th of July Carlee LeBlanc, Teen Miss 4th of July Katelyn Bedwell, Miss Erath Fourth of July E'Llise Marie Trosclair, Young Miss 4th of July Jaylee LeDoux, and Little Miss 4th of July Rylann Viator. The Baby Pageant will be held on June 24 and registration for that pageant is still open.

The school year did not begin well for Abbeville High School nor did it end well.
At the end of August, when school was beginning, AHS teacher/head football coach Gary Adkins lost his short battle with cancer.
He had been at the school just under a year.
The faculty and students had to deal with that tragedy.
Then, right before the school year ended, Abbeville High lost another teacher/coach unexpectedly.
Abbeville High girls basketball coach /boys track coach Jeff Davis died due to a brain aneurism Davis passed away in a Lafayette hospital.

The Abbeville Police conducted a DWI Checkpoint on LA Hwy 14 Bypass between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m, which resulted in four arrests.
During the checkpoint, 508 vehicles were screened, with 9 drivers given a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. Of the 9 drivers, one was arrested for DWI.
APD officers also wrote 15 additional citations for various traffic violations.
Three subjects were arrested and booked on narcotics related offenses and one subject was arrested for Obstruction of a Passageway and Resisting an Officer.
