Abbeville Council renews health insurance

Despite some changes that had to be made, City of Abbeville officials feel they were able to maintain the best possible health insurance plan for employees and their families.
Lloyd Campisi, the city’s insurance broker, presented details of the renewal during last Tuesday’s regular city council meeting.
Councilman Brady Broussard Jr., who serves as the chairman of the city’s Insurance Committee, said after the meeting that the renewal faced a tougher road than in years past.

Maurice discusses budget for upcoming fiscal year

MAURICE — While things could always be better, they could be much worse.
That is the way officials in the Village of Maurice are viewing the operating budget for the upcoming year. The village’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.
The Maurice Board of Aldermen discussed the proposed budget during a special meeting on June 5. It will be up for approval at the next regular meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 19.
“There wasn’t anything really controversial,” Mayor Wayne Theriot said. “It’s not great and it’s not bad.
“It’s pretty much right in the middle.”

Man indicted in Acadia faces charges in Vermilion

CROWLEY - A Youngsville man faces two counts of first-degree rape of a juvenile following a grand jury hearing in Acadia Parish.
Police Chief Jimmy Broussard reports that Shannon Wade Faucheaux, 40, of the 4600 block of Verot School Road, was indicted on two counts of first-degree rape of a juvenile under the age of 13 by an Acadia Parish Grand Jury on May 29.
The investigation was conducted by the Crowley Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, according to Broussard. The offenses allegedly occurred between 2011 and 2013.

Vermilion Parish students on UL Lafayette President’s, Dean’s lists

At the end of each regular semester, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette recognizes those students named to the President’s List and Dean’s List.
Eligible students must be enrolled full time.
To be included on the Dean’s List, students must earn at 3.5 GPA or better and to be included on the President’s List, students must earn a 3.8 GPA or better.
