It pays to be a good driver and beginning this weekend the Abbeville Police Department will be rewarding good drivers with gift cards.
An anonymous donor purchased 50 gift cards that have a balance of $20 each and presented them to the APD. Chief Bill Spearman said he is grateful for that donation and says that the donor wanted to do something nice for people this holiday season.
Elise Mencacci, 9, has been in remission for three years after bring diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis at 3 years old.
ERATH - Elise Mencacci is a local 9-year-old who was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis at the young age of 3.
She received two years of Chemotherapy treatment at the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic in Baton Rouge and has been in remission for three years now.
Santa will make an appearance at Saturday's parade in Abbeville.
The Annual Christmas parade in Abbeville will kick off on Saturday, December 8 at 6 p.m. Pictures with Santa will follow at the Magdalen Square Gazebo.
“This year, there are a few new developments we are excited about this year” Francis Plaisance says “We will have carolists performing during the parade as well as in the square with a few other exciting new things.”
Super 1 Foods will have chocolates and cookies at the square for the public to enjoy. There will also be a marching band this year.
Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon and the FBI are urging residents to be mindful of an automated FBI phone scam that is circulating in our area where residents are advised that they owe taxes, their homes are under surveillance and that arrest warrants have been issued for their arrest.

Willow Cook, a student at North Vermilion High School, has been selected for the 2018 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. She will perform as an Alto 2 in February with the Honors Concert Choir.
