Erath man Succumbs to Injuries in Iberia Parish Crash

NEW IBERIA – At approximately 3:45 pm on November 28th, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle crash on US 90 near Ross Road in Iberia Parish. The crash ultimately took the life of 23-year-old Kayleb Leblanc of Erath.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Leblanc was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on US 90. For unknown reasons, his vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.
Leblanc was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. On December 7th, State Police was notified that Leblanc succumbed to his injuries on December 6th. Impairment is unknown and this crash remains under investigation.

Frances Nunez Hebert

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2019 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for Frances Nunez Hebert, 84, who passed away on December 6, 2019.
Reverend Paul Bienvenu, Pastor, will be the Celebrant of the Mass.
Burial will take place in the St. Alphonsus Mausoleum.
Frances, a resident of Maurice, was the daughter of the late Archie Nunez and the former Allie LaBove.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Doris Andrew Hebert; three daughters, Janie Brown and her husband, Jimmy, Becky Perry and her husband, Phillip, and Kristi Lucas and her husband, Mark; ten grandchildren, Jamie Thomas, Chris Brown, Brian Brown, Katie Gauthier, Aimee Perry, Joshua Toups, Matthew Toups, Jordan Toups, Kyle Lucas and Brenna Lucas; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Phyllis Swire and her husband, Ralph.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, infant Janie Nunez and Myra "Puddin" LeBoeuf and two brothers, Wayne Nunez and James "Bozo" Nunez.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home – Maurice on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Sunday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.

John Bennett Hulin

ERATH — A Mass of Christian Burial for John Bennett Hulin, 88, will be at 11:00AM Saturday December 7, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Manny Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow in Bancker Cemetery in Henry.
Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Erath Friday December 6, 2016 from 4:00PM until 9:00PM with recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Saturday from 8:00AM until service time.
John, a lifelong resident of Henry passed away Thursday December 5, 2019 in his residence. He was a Farmer, worked for Prairie Gregg Drainage and was a member of the Henry Volunteer Fire Dept. for 42 years.
He is survived by his sons, Steve Hulin and wife Suzanne of Leroy, Fabian Hulin and wife Gloria of Henry, and Duell Peter Hulin and wife Denise of Henry, his grandchildren, Shanna Meaux, Shane Hulin, Stacy Broussard, Crystal Kirkconnell, Ashley Eichorn, Zachary Hulin, and Caleb Hulin, great grandchildren, Katy Meaux, Allison Meaux, Hunter Hulin, Gabrielle Hulin, Collin Broussard, Maddie Broussard, Mia Broussard, Chelsie Kirkconnell, William KIrkconnell, Sadie Kirkconnell, Audrey Eichorn, Bennett Eichorn, Catlyn Hulin, and Easton Hulin, great great grandchildren, Whitley and Walker Broussard.
He is preceded in death by his wife Eula Mae Duhon Hulin, his parents, J. Duell and Idelle Dugas Hulin, a brother Edward Hulin and a grandson Eddie Hulin.
Readers are Shanna Meaux and Deborah Eckholdt. Gift bearers are Crystal KIrkconnell, Ashley Eichorn, and Stacy Broussard.Music provided by Katy Meaux.

Harvest Time Christian Academy will present “I’ll be home for Christmas“ at Abbeville high school this Friday and Saturday.
The performances will be under the direction of Joy Broussard. Broussard has been the choir director at harvest Time Christian Academy for 16 years and also serves as CYT Vermilion’s chapter coordinator.
The annual Christmas musical at HTCA is a wonderful long standing tradition for our family, friends and entire community.
“You especially won’t want to miss this year,” Broussard said. “Set in the 1940s, this show is packed with quality sets, beautiful costumes, high energy, romance, dancing, and incredible vocals!”
Admission is free to everyone. Donations will be accepted at the door. Invite your family and friends to attend this beautiful Christmas musical that is perfect for the whole family!
Performance times are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Abbeville high school.

Back-to-back champs: North Vermilion wins another LHSAA title

The North Vermilion High Dance team competed at the LHSAA Spirit Championship in the Game Day category and won the state title for a second year making them back to back champions of Division II.
In the Game Day category teams must demonstrate 3 components; a Fight Song routine, a Sideline routine, and a Field Performance routine.
One judge noted, “Patriots understand how to perform for their fans!,” which sums up exactly what the team aims to do!
NV Dreams not only placed first in their 3A/4A division but their score also ranked them 2nd among all teams across all divisions. The NV Dreams plan to attend UDA regional competition in Hammond next month and are set to travel to Orlando in February for UDA Nationals. The team would like to thank their principal, Tommy Byler, for his continuous encouragement which allows the program to strive and compete. They also want to acknowledge school board rep, Mr. Chris Gautreaux, for recognizing the team’s growth and achievements. NV Dreams love representing their community with a state win!

ABBEVILLE — Abbeville, LA - A Home-going Celebration will be held for Mrs. Lucille Williams, the former Lucille Levine, 89, at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Bishop Raymond Captville, officiating.
She will await the resurrection in St. Paul Cemetery in Abbeville, LA.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 5:00P.M. – 9:00 P.M. at Greater Rose Hill Baptist Church and resume on Saturday at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church at 8:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
A resident of Abbeville, LA she passed at 8:20 A.M. Friday, November 29, 2019, at her residence. Lucille was the youngest of 15 children.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 65 years, Norman Williams, Sr. of Abbeville, LA; one son, Norman Williams, Jr. of Abbeville, LA; three godchildren: Bishop Raymond Captville (Jenniver) of Baton Rouge, LA; Alex Brailey, Sr. of Corpus Christi, TX and Cynthia Dease of Baton Rouge, LA; two devoted nieces: Willia Bessard and Viola Sonnier of Abbeville, LA; Sheketha Moore, whom she loved and thought of as a granddaughter of Abbeville, LA; two sisters-in-law: Theresa McKelly of New Iberia, LA and Leona Porter of Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Minister Roy Williams, Sr. (Mary Dell) of New Iberia, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Levine, Sr. and Rozena Plowden Levine; six sisters: Nedra L. Brailey, Stella L. Collins, Lizzie L. Levy, Lilly L. Sonnier, Alice L. Captville and Ada L. Bessard; eight brothers: Howard Jr., Herbert Jr., George Sr., Eddie, Jimmy, Roy, James and William Levine.

Evelyn Romero

GUEYDAN — The family and friends of Evelyn Romero are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on December 1, 2019, at the age of 79.
Evelyn was born in Kaplan, LA to Minos Dubois and Marie Lillian Matthews Dubois on March 15, 1940. Evelyn attended Kaplan High School and graduated on May 28, 1958, fourth in her class. Evelyn held several jobs throughout her career, from 1954-1958 she worked at the Kaplan Library, the Joy Theater as an usher, as well as picking up tickets, selling popcorn, candy & selling tickets which were only 9 cents at the time. In February of 1958, she became employed with the Kaplan State Bank, where she held many position and worked herself up the ladder of success to become Assistant Vice President until her retirement in 2002. Evelyn was also a member of the Catholic Daughters throughout her adult life, in which she held many post and received many honors. Her greatest joys came from the time she was able to spend with her family and the memories they made. Evelyn was a kind and loving woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Evelyn leaves behind to cherish those memories, her two sons, Farrel James Henry of Abbeville, LA, Lee Jessie Henry (Karla) of Abbeville, LA; her daughter, Donna H. Gary (Russell) of Lafayette, LA; her two brothers, Dion Joseph Dubois of Maurice, LA, Gerard Jude Dubois (Cheryl) of Lafayette, LA; her sister, Geralyn Abshire (Jamie) of Maurice, LA; her three grandchildren, Kelby Henry, Erin Sarver (Matt), Shelly Henry and one great grandchild, Fallyn.
Evelyn is now rejoicing in heaven with the family that preceded in death, her parents, Minos and Marie Dubois; her two husbands, Shelby Henry & Francis Romero; her brother, Farrel Dubois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan, LA on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Father Mark Miley officiating. Burial will follow in the Kaplan Cemetery. Carrying Evelyn to her final resting place will be Dion Dubois, Jude Dubois, Farrel Henry, Lee Henry, Matt Sarver, and Kelby Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Gary, Lenis Hebert, and Leewood Broussard. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan beginning on Sunday, December 8th from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary recited 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8:00 AM until the time of her Funeral Mass.
