State Police looking for Nahshon Brooks as the alleged shooter of Abbeville police officer

Nahshon Brooks, 28, is no stranger to shooting someone on St. Peter Avenue and fleeing.
The Abbeville Police Department is looking for Brooks as the alleged shooter in the shooting of an Abbeville Police Officer.
The officer was on scene answering a call on St. Peter Avenue, when she was shot in the shoulder.
The State Police confirmed Thursday that Brooks is the alleged shooter.

First-ever Abbeville female police officer shot in the line of duty

A female Abbeville Police Officer is in stable condition in a local hospital after being allegedly shot by Nahshon Brooks in a Wednesday night shooting in Abbeville.
An Abbeville officer was shot in the shoulder on a domestic call.
She has been with the Abbeville Police Department for less than five years.
The officer is one of three female officers who work for the Abbeville Police Department.
She is also the first female police officer shot from Vermilion Parish.

Ascension eliminates VC from playoffs

DONALDSONVILLE - The Vermilion Catholic Eagles were still in the game at halftime, down 15-14, but then Ascension Catholic’s running game would take over.
No. 2 Ascension scored 22 second-half points en route to a 37-13 win over VC on Friday in the Division IV semifinal game.
Ascension’s win sets up a rematch with Lafayette Christian, who upset No. 1 Southern Lab to advance to the finals for the second straight year.
Ascension came into the game with one of the best running backs in Division IV, and it showed on Friday night.

Erath to name gym floor after Coach P

On Friday during the homecoming pep rally, Erath Principal Marc Turner surprised Coach Tommie Pillette (right) by showing him what was painted on the gym floor. It turned out to be “Coach P Court” named after long-time Erath coach, Coach Pillette. Pillette has been coaching sports, including basketball, at Erath for more than 30 years. Turner still has to get the final approval from the school board at the next meeting. (photo by Missy Rosa)
