LCA knocks VC out of playoffs on a last-second 37-yard field goal

It looked like it would be known as “wide right on the bayou” that got the Vermilion Catholic Eagles back into the Louisiana Superdome. Instead, it will be known as the “heartbreaking kick” that prevented the Eagles from going to the finals of the Division IV playoffs.
Ninety four seconds before the game ended, LCA kicker Collin Woodson missed right the extra point that would have tied the game 28-28 and possibly send the game into overtime.

Jeremiah Broussard died in a single vehicle accident on Monday.

Single truck accident takes life of Vermilion Parish man

Shortly after 2:30 pm on October 2, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 696 at its intersection with US 167 north of Abbeville. The crash claimed the life 28 year old Jeremiah Broussard, who went to school in Erath.

Former Delcambre town clerk found not guilty of stealing money

The former Delcambre clerk accused of stealing more than $30,000 from the town was found not guilty.
The jury took about 50 minutes to decide.
Lela Gayle Stelly served as Delcambre’s town clerk from 2010 to 2013. She resigned in November of 2013, amid an investigation of missing town funds. After a month’s long investigation into the matter led to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office arresting Stelly. The Attorney General’s Office brought Stelly to trail this week on charges of felony theft.

The Blessed Mary Statue is on its way back to the Bancker Grotto.

Blessed Mary Statue has been found

Good news - the Blessed Mary statue was found Tuesday evening.
On Friday, the statue was removed from the Bancker Grotto located between Henry and Abbeville, along the Vermilion River.
The statue was found south of Nunez on the side the road.
A lady driving by saw the statue and was aware it had been stolen after reading the story on Vermiliontoday.com on Sunday.
She recognized it and picked it up. She also contacted the correct people, who went pick her up Tuesday evening.
The Blessed Mary is expected to be back in the grotto on Wednesday.

Applications needed for White Lake youth hunt

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is accepting applications for the 2017 youth waterfowl lottery hunts on White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area in Vermilion Parish.
There is no charge for the LDWF-sponsored hunts on Nov. 4-5, provided as a quality experience for young waterfowl hunters. The participants in the hunts will be determined by a lottery drawing.
Applications for the lottery should be submitted to LDWF before close of business on Sept. 14.
