Four Vermilion Parish School Board members miss another meeting

For the third straight time, four school board members elected not to attend a specially called school board meeting.
The four school board members not in attendance at Monday night’s meeting were Laura LeBeouf, Luddy Herpin, Kibbie Pillette and Sara Duplechain.
Attending the meeting were Anthony Fontana, Chris Gautreaux, Stacy Landry and Chris Hebert.

Vermilion Parish School Board president wants to circulate a petition

The Vermilion Parish School Board meeting lasted only 90 seconds, but School Board President Anthony Fontana’s words during that time may be felt throughout the parish.
After role call was taken by Superintendent Jerome Puyau, missing were Laura LeBeouf, Luddy Herpin, Sara Duplechain and Kibbie Pillette. Fontana spoke.

Rice industry to profit from China sales

Abbeville farmers and the Louisiana rice industry on the whole should reap the benefits of the recent trade agreement that will enable the United States to export commodities like rice to China.
China consumers and produces more rice than any other country. Last year, China imported about 5 million tons of rice, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported.

U.S. rice because of its strict regulations.

Tommy Byler, Louisiana Principal of the Year

Byler reacts to award

The Louisiana Department of Education honored Tommy Byler, principal of North Vermilion High School in Maurice, with the title of 2018 Louisiana State Principal of the Year at the Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala in Baton Rouge.
Nominations for Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year have seen a 300 percent increase since 2014. Byler was one of three finalists at the awards ceremony on Friday. He now represents the 1,400 principals in Louisiana.
