Kaplan Police Chief Joshua Hardy advises officers investigated the following:

May 30th

Theft on the 800 block of N. Boudreaux.
Disturbance on the 900 block of N. Faye.
Damaged property on the 900 block of N. Faye.
Damaged property on the 300 block of N. Morvant.
Noise complaint/loud music on the 700 block of N. Church.
Kane Hebert, 18, 1012 Trahan, Kaplan, was cited with loud music.

The opening of parts of the Bonne Carré Spillway is causing highwater, which is causing problems for the oysters, crabs, shrimp and finifish in south Louisiana.

Shellfish, finfish being hurt by Louisiana flooding

Baton Rouge, LA –The recent Louisiana high water events along with the opening of the Bonne Carre’ Spillway are having a noticeable effect on the state’s supply of oysters, shrimp, crab and finfish, according to preliminary assessments from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).
Preliminary results from monitoring of commercial harvest using data available as of June 6 show that for oysters on public water-bottoms, landings have declined by 80 percent from the average for the year-to-date and are 89 percent below the average for March-April.

Aaron Carter was booked into the Lafayette Parish jail and is being held on a $750,000 bond.

Abbeville Gremlin gang member charged with alleged murder of Abbeville teen

Almost to the date that 16-year-old Chazton Guidry of Abbeville was killed, an arrest has been made for his murder.
Guidry was murdered on May 11, 2018, in Abbeville. Someone was arrested and charged on May 13, 2019.
After a lengthy investigation, detectives with the Abbeville Police Department were able to obtain a warrant charging Aaron Carter with Second Degree Murder. The warrant was entered into the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.).
In the past Carter was arrested for being a Gremlin gang member and also has a history of arrests.

Abbeville man allegedly attempts to kill adopted brother, shoots off his finger

According to the Abbeville Police Department, an Abbeville man was arrested for allegedly trying to kill his adopted brother which resulted in him allegedly shooting off his adopted brother’s finger.
On Saturday, at approximately 12:38 p.m. an individual walked into the police department and was holding his hand. The individual stated that someone had tried to kill him and had shot his finger off.
Officers noticed that the victim’s left middle finger was barely connected to the hand.

School Board President Jean Broussard, (left,standing) resigned as a school board member during Wednesday's meeting.

Vermilion Parish School Board President suddenly resigns

After a 2 1/2 hour Vermilion Parish School Board meeting, school board president Jean Broussard ended the meeting with a bombshell.
He told the school board members, superintendent Jerome Puyau and the audience that he is resigning as a school member immediately.
“I decided two weeks ago to write a letter to the Secretary of State to resign as a school board member,” said Broussard during the meeting.
He explained he would resign as soon as the secretary of state received his letter of resignation.
