Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries now accepting bids for alligator hunting

May 8, 2019 - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is accepting bids for alligator hunting on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) properties and state wildlife refuges for the 2019-2021 alligator harvest seasons. Applications will be accepted until bid opening at 10 a.m. on June 21 at the LDWF Lafayette Field Office, 200 Dulles Drive, Lafayette, LA 70506.

Eligible alligator hunters are chosen through a bid system every three years on selected WMA/Refuge/USACE properties.

Former North Vermilion slugger named hitter of the week in the Southland Conference

FRISCO, Texas—McNeese freshman outfielder Kaylee Lopez has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Lopez, a native of Indian Bayou, helped McNeese to its regular series sweep over Lamar over the weekend.
The rookie was 6 for 11 at the plate with a .545 batting average along with five RBI one double, two stolen bases and scored one run.
Lopez did most of her damage in Friday’s doubleheader where she opened the series going 3 for 4 with a double, two stolen bases and three RBI.

Parishioners encouraged by Vice President Pence's visit

OPELOUSAS - Sancha Noel Smith said only good could happen by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence meeting and visiting with parishioners of three churches that burnt in March and April near Opelousas.
Smith was one of a handful of parishioners who met with Vice President Pence on Friday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church near Opelousas. The Baptist Church was one of three community churches that was set on fire and burned.
